Hi dave

If we could find a 110 ac /12 volt adapter put it betwen the littel fan cable the runs from the transformer , if the fan that is really small it might me worth getting such one becasue you can buy PC fans that have noise specs beloo 10 db, wich in reality means almost silent.

The lowest noise 110 ac fan i have found was 31 db

The Silenx is 9dba, check out the links I provided in the post above. I think that is a great solution. Just shorted the power cords a little.
38dba to 9 is quite a difference. They move a lot of air as well.

27-34dba. Still loud. I just bought a Silenx Ixtrema 120 11dba that pushes 46cfm and it's half as thick as the stock one (1 inch). I ordered the transformer 110v to 12v, should get it next week.

That's the fan I have in my simul C+ headshell, and been looking for forever, and never found where to buy.
It is pretty much half the noise compared to the howard fan.
Obviously you can hear the fan when it's quiet, but not when you play.
I'm talking about the 6.0/5.5 watts, the one with 15T1 code.

Meant to reply to this post not make another, sorry just got up and was not thinking.

I remember an interview with Les Paul. A person said " I have the same Guitar and the same amp,
How come I do not sound like you ?"
Les answered politely " well because you aren't me "
It is somehow perceived if a person buy's a guitar and amp like someone they admire you will sound like them.
Even before this article I knew that was not true. I just did not know how to phrase it.
It helps to have the same gear, but you really do need to study how one plays.
Other than the quote this is all simply my opinion.
I will add some guitarists are easier to copy then others, thats a given.
/cheers

It has been my understanding, and my experience that if you use the highest "tap" on the transformer, for example
if you have a choice of 4,8,16 ohms, using the highest ohm tap, in your case the 8 ohm, is best.
I can list why this is but you can try it either way and what sounds best to you is what you may want.
I can't believe this post is three pages long.
Wait is actually is three pages long.

Hi thanks for your write up.

My c+ head has a class A/simual class swich , it then ha one 8 ohn out and two 4 ohm outs, But no watt swiching.

Hmm

well, I have a crate cab which is exactly the same specs as you said. 16/4 ohms mono, 8 ohms stereo. Presently, I have switched the cab to 16 ohms mono and have connected one of the 4 ohms jacks of my MK IV to the cab.

After reading several threads, many believe the amp gives a smoother darker sound when connecting a 8 ohm cab to the 4 ohms o/p of the amp instead of the 8 ohms o/p. I dont know why, but it sounds good and I dont care.

The 8 ohms stereo of the cab is good as long as you have two amps connected to the cab. If you connect only one input to the cab, then the cab becomes 4 ohms mono. I had connected the mark iv in that fashion for quite a while before I realized the fact. Thank god, the amp was fine. *phew* If you really, really want 8 ohms, then I guess you could use two speaker cables, switch the cab to stereo and connect both 4 ohms jacks of the amp to the cab.

Hmm , now its really starting to get confusing.

Hmm my amp was adveticed as being a 100 watt model.

Here is a pic of the exact same cab im getting, http://www.musik-service.de/images/prx/395753034/i01.jpg

Its seems that i can damage my amp by doing it wrong so i really need somone with real knowledge to help me out here.

But thanks for all your tips

Connect the 4 ohm output from your amp into the 4 ohms input on your cab.
Switch the mono/stereo selector to mono.

This is the way Mesa recommend using marshall 16/4 ohm cabs.
