I'm not sure how to describe the lead sound I want....I guess I want to be a really clear sound. Pretty much like the lead sound on "Constant Motion" on DT's new album. Right now my lead sound is really round/smooth/bubbly. I want it to be really "cutting" if you get what I mean. Anybody have some good lead settings?

Here are my secrets:

Tweed / Mid Gain / Triode / Simul-Class

Lead Gain: 8 (pulled)
Lead Treble: 8.5
Lead Bass: 2.5
Lead Mid: 4.5
Lead Drive: 8 (pulled)
Lead Master: 3
Lead Presence: 7 (pulled)

Master: 2

Maybe try that EQ? He used that on G3.

I don't like it at all, I prefer this;

Sounds really good to me. I run the main EQ slightly different, but that's a decent starting point graphic IMO.

Yeah, JP really scooped the hell outta that EQ on the first pic. I didn't like it either.

Basically if you want the Constant Motion tone I would say keep the presense low (3 to 0) pushed or pulled, don't scoop the EQ too much (750 slider between middle line and bottom or anywhere above the bottom line) and depending on the brightness of your guitar and pick-ups, mess around with the 6600 slider (around the middle).

Here's a clip of someone pretty much nailing the constant motion tone on his Mark IV and JP Signature. Found it on the rig-talk forum.

(all the instruments and vocals are from the album except for the guitar work which is him playing)

Here's a pic of his EQ. I don't think he used it in the clip.

Wow that clip sounds better than the album. Haha. I just like to hear the chunk I guess.

I wonder how he recorded that.. technique wise... sounds like relatively low volume with close mic placement.
