I bought a Recto from a guy on CL. It worked for the couple of minutes I demoed the unit but when I got home, it seemed to get worse and worse. I changed all of the tubes to new JJ ECC83 S tubes.

I made a recording of the sound. My guitar is a Gibson SG with P90s rub straight into the Recto and recording out to my Audio interface. The interface is fine and the signal isn't clipped there.

Here's the SoundCloud track:

Any idea what could be the problem?

Thanks!

Problem solved. I had my guitar plugged into the front input. I moved it to the rear input and lowered the master volumes to 9 o'clock. Everything seems to be working properly. I don't know why it makes a difference which input is used but I'll keep reading the manual until I get it sorted.

Nice trouble shooting! I'll have to try it! Just so you are aware, the Rectifier Recording Preamp will try your patience and requires a little bit of "out of the box" thinking to get the tones you want. The clean channel is actually pretty easy to work with though. :D Out of curiosity, what studio monitors are you using?
