Hey guys, I've had a Mesa Boogie Triple Rec, with the standard head and cab(like you would buy at GC as a set) for over a year and never really experimented with my tone. Now I want to try and make a specific one, but need some help. Is anyone willing/knows how to get as close as possible to Andy Timmons type tone on Cry For You? I will post a link of the vid, but if you can get a basic tone(distortion, not his clean) down, and then even say what effects I may need to get the sweet echo, that would be awesome. I have a delay pedal, and so I can make some pretty decent echo, but I just can't get the right amount of gain and the proper tone to match his. I know it won't be perfect because he has a lone star and a stiletto, but I'm sure we can get close. Well thanks to anyone if they are willing to help!

The vid of him live is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaVVZYOvMFY skip to :40 secs to hear the tone I want.

My first post woo!

Andy uses Mesa Stiletto's for his dirty tone, so getting that amp would be a big step.

If you can't do that then put EL-34 power tubes in your Recto for starters. Dial down the presence and the treble and dial the mids and bass to taste. Even then the Recto still wont be super tight, so an overdirve of some type may be needed.

But ideally getting a Stiletto would be ideal.

Hope that helps.

Yes thanks! I do my best. I understand that if I want that tone exactly, i need that amp. I'm going to get an overdrive soon, and I saw your vid about the ocd vs the maxon, so that helped a ton. The advice is all I really wanted, so thank you much my friend!

i think andy even has his own sig BB preamp pedal. but i'm sure a normal BB preamp would work as well

andy also uses a tube driver into the clean (on fat) of a stiletto; and the lonestar lead for solos, in addition to the stiletto tite gain...

do you have his humbucker? that might help out alot too.

I do not. I have a gibson xplorer with the standard pickups, so that doesn't really help much.

can't believe no one noticed that this was back before his Boogie endorsement. Laney halfstack sittin right behind him. Probably a gh100 or one of those VHR100 or whatever they were called.
COuld have had either 6L6 or EL34 tubes in it, either way it's a British amp, not an American amp.
