Nobody wants to talk about speakers here, or what?
It occurred to me just now that maybe one reason my mesa rigs sound so dark is that I am using too much alnico!
Admittedly, the two 4x10 cabs that I own (one Lonestar and one older, more compact) CAME with alnicos in them... but I notice that most mesa cabs come with ceramics from the factory.
Maybe my alnico speakers tend to emphasize the bass freqs too much, causing my rigs to sound a bit "dark."
I have mixed ceramics in my cabs, and some hempcone Tonetubbies, so I would think the mix should be pretty good, but I have to be careful not to dial in too much gain or my bass control becomes basically useless.
This occurs with both my Express Amps, and my Fender Deluxe, and not so noticeably with the Maverick and Studio .22 (smaller output tubes).
Opinions?
