Hello. Lately my Mesa Roadster has fallen victim to unusual humming/buzzing whenever I turn the amp up to even bedroom levels.

I went to GC to try out a Roadster that they had with all of the same settings. Just as I suspected, the Roadster there was pretty darn silent, even on high gain settings, as my Roadster used to be. I talked to someone at GC and they said that if you pull out the instrument cable and turn up the volume, there shouldn't be any noise at all. If there is noise, the problem is within your amp, and if not, the problem could be your guitar or something external.

I did exactly that on the Roadster at GC and there was no noise. Of course coming home and trying the same things, I had noise galore.

Does this sound like a preamp tube issue, or possibly something worse? I recently changed out all the output tubes, so that shouldn't be an issue at all. What do you all think? Would it be best to take it to a tech?

Might as well check the tubes. The majority of small and large problems are caused and fixed by a tube or two. Even a new tube can go bad quick.

But id start with the preamp tubes, go through them one by one to see if there is a bad one in the bunch. Id also try your amp plugged into another outlet and see if that makes a difference. Dirty power can give dirty sounds.

Then take it to a tech if the problem isnt fixed from doing the regular user serviceable maintenance.

Yeah, I forgot to mentioned that I did change three preamp tubes (V1, 2 and 3), and played the swap-one-tube-at-a-time game as well (very time consuming and annoying), and couldn't find a problem tube. I also noticed the problem was still apparent at my drummers house. It looks like it is going to be time for a tech visit. Any suggestions for the Massachusetts, Connecticut area?

Butch, at RI Musical Repair in Providence is an authorized Mesa/Boogie tech and handled my Express problem (bad reverb pan, under warranty) really well.

order a new tube set then if its still there go to a tech.. htere is a guy in new milford , ct authorized mesa tech
