I have a Stiletto Ace combo. I'd like to get a 4x12 cab for bigger shows. I'd like something with good bottom end but still want that sizzle from the Stiletto to shine through. Would the Rectifier cabs be a good choice?

Thanks for the tip. I've have to check out a Stiletto cab. Has anyone tried a Basson cabinet with their Mesa?

jurdso has! and he loves it...I had a chance to checking out a basson 2x12 last night, but after playing with mesa lonestar and recto cabinet in gc - I was like nah lets stick with mesa product. I love mesa stuff!

I've just bought an Ace head myself... love it so far. I've been playing it through my Avatar 2x12 loaded with two Vintage 30s, closed back. Going to sell that cab soon, though.

I'm building a slant 4x12 cab for it... green tolex, salt and pepper grille, white piping... (following the Southbay Ampworks photo tutorials on the various forums... thanks Dave!).

I have adjusted the dimensions a bit, made the cab 1" deeper on the bottom half so the slant kicks back a little more in hopes of being able to hear myself a bit better on stages and I've dado'd the baffle in the hopes of tightening up the response and adding bass.

Anyways, I am trying to figure out which speakers I should go with... I'm okay with the Vintage 30s.. but just can't help feeling that there's something better. There's times I'm just not happy with the tone from them. I've read a bunch about the Scumbacks and the WGS speakers...

If budget was no concern.. I think I'd be inclined to get scumbacks as they seem to please a lot of people. Plus, I can't help but think that the Ace would like the Greenback vibe since it's got EL34s and the SLP cosmetics.

I'm wondering if a 4x12 of Green Beret's from WGS would stay clean at loud levels using my Ace? Anyone have thoughts on that?

I know there are a lot of people that love the G12H30s. But, I don't like the tone clips I've heard from the G12H30s... they sound a bit nasally to me. I wish Celestion and the WGS would put sound/tone files on their websites like Eminence does.

Emi has Tomo playing the same riffs at the same settings for all of their speakers for a clean, dirty, and heavy settings. It's easy to click and hear the differences.... Of these, the Legend 12GB sounds pretty darn good, and almost identical to their Red Fang - which is a $160 speaker that's supposed to be in the same vein as a Celestion Blue....

Any thoughts on speaker choices in a 4x12 driven by an Ace would be appreciated... Also, apologies if this is viewed as a hijack... thought it would promote some good discussions on speaker choices/cab choices for use with an Ace. Rock on...

PS - If anyone has an extra large Mesa Engineering plate logo, lemme know!

Not a 412, but I use two Basson 112s for the wet sounds (in stereo) from my Stiletto Ace head with my w/d/w rig. They sound great, lots of punch and bite, never any mud. I use an old Gallien-Kreuger, Celestion loaded 412 for the dry, but I may replace this with a Basson 412 or 212 this year. I believe the Celestions in the G-K are Vintage 30s, but I don't remember exactly. It's been a long time (at least 15 years) since I opened it.
