genz benz g flex VS V30

Hi guys. Im looking for a new 2X12 cab and I read a lot about the genz benz 2X12 Gflex here.

Right now Ive got an avatar 2X12 with vintage 30's and I really dig this cab. Good projection, and the upper mid bite with fairly smooth top end really does well for my modern hard rock riffing and soloing.

But, Id like to add some more air pressure/bass to the mix. Ive got surprisingly good bass now, but its not quite percussive enough. This is really what Im looking for. Another 2X12 that has a good tone obviously, but I want it to move some air with strong, but percussive bass. No resonant or boomy stuff.

So as far as the genz benz G flex 2X12 goes..... number one, whats the tone of this cab feel like in comparison to a vintage 30? Should I expect more or less high's, and are the mids as aggressive....or scooped? Just trying to get a feel for the tone difference. I dont want to stray too too far from the V30 sound, but its not a big deal if its a close enough fit to compliment the V30 speaker type. And number two.....is the G flex more of a boomy bass cab, or will it do a tight and percussive bass?

Im using a three channel triple recto solo also. Hopefully you guys arent getting tired of hearing from me yet! Thanks!

i used to run my single recto through one of these and the low end was just awesome. they're not as heavy on the high freqs as the v30s are, so they've got more of a mid-bassy feel to them, but definitely not muddy. the bass is tight and thick, which would probably sound really good in combination with the v30s to balance out some of the higher end. it's just an all around awesome cab.

I run a mark iv though a GB 212 and its awesome. I think it definitely will do what you are looking for. The bass on it is super tight and aggressive compared to a v30. It hardly gets flubby at all unless you crack the bass all the way and boost it with and eq also. But my experience with v30s was that there was a pretty flubby bass when running four of them. But yeah, anyways,i love the g flex cab, really tight bass and all around good cab, definitely a good addition to add some kapow. I'm actually looking into getting a 212 cab to finish it off.

The cabinet design is good but what about the quality of the speakers themselves? That was my concern when comparing the G flex to the Mesa cabinets. What about throwing the V30's into the g flex cabinet?

hmm... I've actually thought about changing speakers in it ( I have an EV I wanted to try) but I think instead I'm just going to get a separate 212 of v30s or something similar. The speaker quality is good. I don't really know much about speakers, but I know what sounds good to me and these are really nice and punchy. As far as cleans go, I like them I don't play clean too much, but the sounds I get a really warm smooth. And about the g system I really like it as well, but it heavily depends on what amp you are using. I have a mark IV that it works really well with and I had a 3 channel dual rec that it was absolutely horrible with. It mainly has to do with the type of fx loop that is on your amp. It works best and is quietest with a serial loop. With a parallel loop I had nothing but noise and problems and tone coloring (made it very harsh and brittle sounding with the dual rec). Oh and one more thing about the g flex, Try to find a used one, because people sell them for really cheap (I got it for $250) so if you end up not liking it, you can sell it make your money back for the most part, but I think you'll like it.

you may want to check out basson.... i have a 2x12 cab that has some of the best lows i've heard..... i'm actually in the same boat but opposite.... i need a 2x12 with a little more of that v30 flare.....

also as far as cabs with great bass response check out Freda and Port City Wave.... both are killer cabs and deliver incredible lows and at the same time a multi-directional sound..... i tried the gflex and thought they were ok..... not a fan of tube ports though..... but if you are look into the Ear Candy Buzzbomb... same basic design as the gflex but i found to be a superior cab
