The Assign rotary control on the back panel for the FX loop has 6 settings (going off the manual as amp is in workshop);

Loop On
Channel 1
Channel 2
Channel 3
FTSW
Loop Bypass

Here is what the manual says about this control;
An ASSIGN rotary control that allows you to have any combination of LOOP ON status or completely remove it from the signal path altogether.

I'm afraid I need a little more to understand what this selector does.

Loop Bypass. I think this setting means the loop is not used at all and cannot be switched on via the footswitch.
Loop On. I think this setting means the loop is always on and cannot be switched off via the footswitch.
FTSW. Does this mean I can switch between Loop Bypass and Loop On using the footswitch?
Channel 1, Channel 2 & Channel 3. I don't understand what these settings mean.

Any help appreciated. I recently used my loop for the first time and the next time I used the amp it sounded like total crap. Something went wrong, not sure if using the loop had anything to do with it (I've had problems with this amp since I bought it). It is now with a tech, again. I really don't want to sell this amp but it is pushing the friendship way too far. Plus selling something with a problem doesn't sit well with me. If only the thing would break down totally once and for all, revealing the ghost in the machine!

When set to "Channel 1", the loop will switch on when you select Channel 1, and switch off when Channel 2 or 3 is selected. When set to "Channel 2", the loop will switch on when Channel 2 is selected, and switch off when Channel 1 or 3 is selected.

Etc.

My DR has a parallel effects loop.
It sounds best (IMO) with the mix knobs turned all the way up.
Does this setting still allowing a dry signal to pass?

Yes, a small amount of dry signal will still be present. I believe the mix knob is labeled 90% when at max.
