I was looking at that but I don't know about a starting bid of 1475. I guess you still get the 5 year warranty though and brand new is 1900 something. Wonder why he selling and how much the bids will go for?

Hey how come your giving up on the MKIV so soon? I saw the thread you posted when you first bought it...you goin for that C+ on ebay? :D

My bad VisualRocker69. I didn't realize it was you who was selling, just thought you did a search on ebay and were informing us-----had a brain fart. Why are you selling it so soon? What are you replacing it w/?

Good guesses, Johnson and ToneToneAddictJon, but no :)

Though I was considering selling all and going for a IIC+... but decided against it. All in good time.

And nothing in this world will succeed in "bringing [me] towards the DR" short of a pre-500 2 channel DR, so no worries. 8) Once again, all in good time.

The issue is simply that a head/cab is more practical for me. Since I go to college far, far, far away, it's much cheaper to have a cab there and a cab at home and transport the head back and forth, rather than having a whole backup amp (whether its a Mark IV or not) at home.

Also, from what I understand, it's necessary to have a head/cab seperate in order to use an attenuator... I plan on getting a THD hotplate. Simply makes volume control a hell of a lot easier. Not that I was having difficulty getting good tones at a low volume, just the whole nanometer increment volume jump when the master is at 1.5-ish was getting on my nerves

ANYWAY, I don't really feel bad about parting with it. I knew that I was getting it for a summer test drive more than anything else, because I already knew I wanted a head and a cab. It was simply more convenient to get a combo at the moment, and obviously for a lot of people that's also more manageable in general.

Thanks for the questions :)

No it's not. If you purchase another, short speaker cable, you can connect the hotplate in between the speaker lead and the speaker out on the combo. You just have to make sure you are using the right hotplate to match the Ohms the amp is seeing and the speaker is receiving. :)

ahhh, that makes a lot of sense! hauling a combo amp from home to school each semester would be a pain, especially if its long distance! But the questions remains...what cabs are you going to get?? :D

Right now, I'm set on 1x12 thiele with an EVM 12L. I've heard many good things about that, from the bass response to the clarity and how it lets the amp's natural tone come through.

But I also think I should consider a 2x12 Recto cab with Celestion Vintage 30's... it's half of what Petrucci uses, after all. And he's the reason I got into Marks to begin with.

Heh, actually i DID want a recto before joining these forums.

yeah, yeah, yeah... just bid on it already :p JK

I've always loved the head/cab setup vs the combo amps, but I gig a lot and can't stand dragging something that heavy around, plus combo's are more likely to have tube problems pop up randomly. I would vote for the thiele with evm over the recto 2x12, more portable, amazing tone, tighter more focused sound (1 speaker vs 2). Also easier to mic when recording with 1 speaker and faster to find the sweet spot (for me anyway). I don't think I'd ever spend the money on a IIC+, I could get 2, 3 or even 4 other boogies used for the price of a IIC+. I would get a triaxis and ractifier setup if I was gonna spend that kind of money.

I had a similar problem with my MKIV combo...I didnt like the way the C-90 sounded. Instead of selling and starting over, call Mesa and order a headshell (which is what I did) and then you just switch it over. The beauty is that you dont take the hit on the sale of a new amp and you can always convert it back if you wish. I plan on using mine through my 2X12 Recto which sounds awesome with the MKIV.

Or a Studio Preamp w/ 2:90 power amp.
Wouldn't that get you 99% of the IIC+ sound anyway?

Or the quad, but I don't think the IIC+ fits me, and for that much cash that amp better fit like a glove
The only amp I've ever regretted selling was my Peavey Ultra Plus head, that thing was awesome, but I more than doubled my money on it (I love buying beat up gear, cleaning it up, and turning a profit on it)

Well for a one amp setup, I think the IIC+ is useless to me. I only get a lead sound out of it... I doubt my lead EQ will be optimal for both lead and clean... what are the chances of that :p

A +1 on the thiele over the 2x12 with the v30s. I have both and I really like how the thiele sounds compared to the 2x12. Coupled with it being much easier to move and the thiele is the clear winner. BTW my thiele has the EVM in it. A great speaker.

Thanks!! 8) I was getting worried that MINT CONDITION didn't mean anything anymore these days... with all these guys lusting after 2-channel rectos and IIC+'s :p silly rabbits!
