Hey Man.

I bought a two channel Dual Rec with EL34's in it. I thought it sounded awesome!! But I though to get the True Rectifer Tone that everyone talks about I need to get me some 6L6's?

I bought GT6L6b tubes and installed them. To be honest, I prefer the EL34's. Even though they're suposed to be Brit sounding??

The EL34's have bigger balls than the GT6L6's I put in.

Or maybe I have to get hold of MESA 6L6's?? I dont know?

Those are some nice cabs you have there....

I think a mix sounds best. If you use 4 6L6s and 2 EL34s. The EL34 adds some fullness to the sound but the 6L6 retains the Recto tone.

Haven't tried EL-34's in it yet....might when it is time for a tube swap though....

So far though, I am very happy with the 6L6's.....just DON'T SCOOP THE MIDS! It gives the 6L6's a much fuller tone!

In my Single Recto, of the tubes that I have tried, I prefer the 6L6's. Bigger, fatter, more growl than the EL34's that I had tried. The 34's seemed harsh...something I could not dial out. But again its all a matter of taste. OH I am sure I will try MANY tubes before I die....so that may change. But yeah 6L6's for me. ;)

Hum

My Dual Rec shipped with the Chinese 6L6's, (*STR 440), they sound really good for a stock Mesa tube.

I have tried JJ KT77's in it, they sound good but took about 10 hours to break in before they lost some of their harshness.

I have Ruby EL34's in it now and I think these are GREAT tubes for the Rectos. They don't have as much bottom as the KT77s or the JJ E34Ls but the Recto has Massive amounts of bottom anyway so you are not going to miss it. I find that if I dial in Too much bottom or scoop the mids too much, it is easier to lose definition in the mix of a band.

I have a Lonestar Classic that shipped with STR 430's, (*Sovteks) and I think this is one of the most lifeless tubes that Mesa has ever rebranded. I even called Tech Support and complained. I have SED 6L6's in it now and they are WORLDS better for sound quality, chime, harmonics, drive and volume. Mesa should take the STR 430's and digs a big hole and bury them to keep anyone from actually buying or using them ever again. Total CRAP!!!
