Footswitch question for Mk III

Do I absolutely need the footswitch to operate the the lead channel of my Mark III? I got mine a while ago and just today got my cab so I've been trying to find a way to go to channel three I seem pretty convinced I need the footswitch...

Download and print as there's some good info in there as well. I'm just 'pulling' the Lead Knob right now myself and using a single switch on the R1/R2 position I just ordered a custom 3 Button switch from Voodooman, SOLO EQ and R1/R2 since I always leave my Reverb on his stock 4 button was overkill. I'll report back once it arrives.
