Try the clean channel with the output just past noon, master cranked ad the gain somewhere around 1 or 2 oclock just low enough that you dont get all the crazy feedback and oscillation. eq to taste. if your feeling really nutty you could try pushed mode its more gain and mids, but less highs.

If you play it this way it behaves very much like a classic vintage style amp. you can go from high gain back to clean by rolling off the volume or switching to the neck position, but be warned its friggin insanely loud this way.

Also it can be tricky to ballance out the red channel because there is so much power tube distortion, but it can be done, roll back the gain untill the the squealing goes away then ballance out the master volumes

In general on a recto you want to roll back the bass as there is much more on tap then anyone needs. roll back the gain again because you have too much that is available and turn up your mids and highs to taste.

so it pretty much works like the opposite of a marshall :p

what kind of guitar are you using?.

Thanks for the help.Sounding better.I forgot to mention I am using a PRS with emg pickups and a 1960a cabinet.Looking for instant gratification. Thanks again

Download the PDF manual off of Mesa's site. I've never done this with any other amp, but starting with their suggested settings (usually called 'instant gratification settings') really got me going on setting things up for myself once I started adjusting from their starting points.
