I don't know, but my dealer just phoned and it's here waiting for me-still in the box! I can barely contain my self. I should have it in an hour.

He also told me, that the first 100 combos were made for the US and not shipped to Canada, and guess what my s/n is...101! Don't know if it means much, but sounds cool.

Anyways, I loves my metal, I'll be tweaking every which way this looooong weekend to confirm its abilities. I also have a 1x12 recto closed back that mic's well with a couple of sm57's so hopefully I can post some METAL clips!

I'll post a smiley when I get home with it!

Finally...

Awesome! Congrats.

Did you get it at Long & McQuade? And how many much clams does it costs for us canadians?

Perfect timing with our long weekend!

May be the second!

I work at Long & McQuade in Toronto, and we have a Mark V combo. It sounds phenomenal!

I don't know about his, but my L&M guy told me their price is 2640 for the head and 2750 for the combo.

Yes that would be correct, i ordered my head for 2640$ at long and mcquade

I got it at Guitarworks calgary and they are selling them for 2700 but I actually got a deal and paid less than that-lucky day I guess. The L&M here wanted 2750 and they were completely useless (wouldn't give me any info or updates) so I pulled my money out and went to GW's! I'm sure happy about it now! V for Vitoria day...lol-too cool!

I bumped it at the store and it has some fantastic potential. I think it'll probably need el34's though for some outright metal up the yingyang. I've got a set of 4 but I think I read you can mix 34's and 6l6's so I'll try that too.

Anyway gotta gets some beer and grab an axe.

Well I FINALLY got to play one today. The word on the Boogie Board was that one was at the Steeles Long and Mcquade location in Toronto. I called right when they opened this morning and I was calling, the guy who had purchased it on Friday was returning it. Why? because to him it didn't sound enough like a Fender Twin. Retarded. Anyway, I put the combo through a 4x12 Recto Cab, I didn't use the combo speaker at all.

So what can I say other than that I put down a deposit and had a head ordered right after I was finished playing. But I will try to give as much insight as I can. I was playing straight through a Les Paul Studio that was identical to the one I have at home.

To start this amp is very true to the many youtube video I've watched but obviously much better in person.
Channel 1: The regular clean is very similar to the Mark IV clean but a little richer and more crystally and 3-D if that makes sense. the fat clean is just a fuller version that clean but is a way better clean than the Mark IV. I didn't spend much time in tweed, but it was very spongy and vintage sounding, it would suit my needs, but I don't think real Fender tweed users will be convinced and I wouldn't blame them. The bold switch does as described, just adds a little punch to the signal.

Channel 2: Thank you Randy for not having this channel be anything like the Mark IV. Edge is a very usable rhythmn gain, very light and vintage sounding. Like in channel one, crunch takes edge up a notch in gain and mid range for thicker distortion sound. Mark 1 sounds great as a liquidy, buttery smooth lead sound. while trying this channel I noticed that edge and cruch sounded great but Mark 1 was a VERY flubby, I then noticed that I had yet to engage my bridge pickup, that's how sweet the edge and crunch are, even a neck pickup rips. All these voices are signifigantly enhanced by the eq.

Channel 3: The Mark IIC+ is very cool, it is pure Metallica, throaty, thick put very tasteful. As a Mark IV owner, the Mark IV setting is very true the original ...on it's best day. Because the simplicity of the mark 5 I found it easier to get a great IV sound. For Extreme, I was expecting a very harsh high end but it was a more powerful and raw version of the Mark IV. I could get wicked squeals in 10, 45 and 90 watt modes.

The reverb is a huge improvement and there were no pops while switching channels. The footswitch is huge, which is to be expected. I wish that the presence knob had more of an effect when increasing it. But that is pretty minor.

Like I said, I have a head on order and I'm already in love with amp. If I can be of any help to people try figure things out, I'm more than happy to answer questions.

Yea that's the one. As soon as it came in, I sat it on the 4x12 and it just blew us away.

I sold it the next morning... And yes, it came back today. :) Now we get to play it again.

I have the first head on order for the entire L&M chain, very exciting!

Any word on when those are supposed to be in? I ordered mine yesterday.

Well, you are 5th on the order list.

However, I did speak to the Canadian representative, and we should be getting our heads (first batch, not sure how many) on the next Mesa shipment. Mesa Boogie ships to us once a month, at the end of the month.

Expect early June for heads to hit Canada.

After doing some calculating and research, it may be cheaper to just buy the amp in the states.

Here's how
Head is $2000USD x 8.7% New York sales tax which is $2174.00
After current conversion is $2440 CND

$2440 x 13% (GST/PST) $2757.20

Full price at Long and McQuade is $2966.25

The clincher here is that while bringing this amp across the border because it was built in the United States, it qualifies under NAFTA. If you go to the CBSA website as long as the product is for personal use and says it was built in Canada, the United States or Mexico it qualifies.

Anyone know if L and M would price match?

L&M never price matches... well, rarely, anyway...

However, I've already told my guys at the local L&M that we're "renegotiating" the price when it does eventually arrive.

In fact, I told 'em that when I placed the order at the end of January: the price at the time was reasonable given an 80 cent dollar, but as of this morning, the C$ was just over US$ 0.89... a big change!

I'm looking at it this way: the longer it takes to get our Fives, the more the US$ drops relative to the rest of the world, making it cheaper for us Canuckleheads when it does eventually get into our hands.

First, read this, the personal exemption is limited to a certain amount based upon time spent in the States. http://www.buyusa.gov/canada/en/50.html Do note the vague wording about the exemptions.

You would not only be hit up for Duty, but GST, and potentially PST depending where you live.

When you factor in the $200 difference you might start thinking about how is the Amp going to get from the States to your house. How much does it cost to drive or fly to the States (not just gas money, but your time as well, hotel, food etc etc). If you are getting it shipped, how much will that cost?

So, even if you get away with not paying Duty and Taxes, if you think you can get an amp into Canada for less then the $200 difference, go ahead. Personally I am not willing to risk my time and money when I can just sit back and wait a few weeks before my amp arrives.

BTW, L&M will price match against most Canadian companies, but likely only within their region. The recorded message on their phone system says as much.

Read his post again: manufactured in the US means zero duty, and he already factored in GST + PST (a given here in Ontario!) And since we're 60 (me) to 90 minutes (him) from Buffalo, time isn't much of a concern.

Hmm, I would like to see where it states implicitly that there is no Duty on it. I admit to misreading the Tax part of his post, but after reviewing several Canadian government sites they all state "may be exempt" and limits to a dollar value of Duty exemption.

I wouldn't mind being wrong, but I caution that the difference in price versus the effort involved "may" not be worth it.
