Rather long clips, in fact... songs!
My band just finished recording 8 instrumental tracks in our home studio. We have four of them up on myspace at http://myspace.com/xoclore. We recorded everything using a Presonus Firestudio and Digimax FS going into a PC running Cubase SX.
The ones up there now were chosen to represent the full spectrum of our sound, from funky to heavy. I'd say a few of my favorite guitar parts are the solo at the end of Black Train, the lead parts in the choruses of Too Much, the trippy breakdown in The Same Family, and basically all of the D-Tune (we made lots of room for guitar in that one).
I did these guitars mostly with a Fender American Standard Strat with lace sensors in the neck/middle and a SD hot rails in the bridge (used the hot rails a lot more on these recordings than I expected to), and did some overdubs and other minor parts with an Ibanez SZ720FM.
I used my Mark IV wide combo and halfback 1x12", mic'd the combo with an Audix i5 and the 1x12" with a Sennheiser e906, and mixed in a little bit of direct/recording out on a few parts.
This whole home recording thing has been quite a learning experience... It was my first time doing a major project from the engineering end and now moreso than ever I have mucho respect for audio engineers. I also learned a lot about the use of stereo. I feel like our sound has really come together in the past few weeks during the mixdown process, we've gotten everything to stand out and be heard but still sit right in the mix like we want it to.
Now it's time to find a singer... and a name we all like...
