Mainly a Gibson guitar player but recently sparked in an interest in a couple of Fenders and just curious how Fenders and Mesas get along? Unfortunately, my local shops do not carry Mesas so I have to drive to pair them up, otherwise it's buy and hope :D

What style of music do you play?I play in a hard rock band called Hikari Rising and i,m a fender strat/tele through a mark 2/3 kinda guy.Great for cleans and bluesy type stuff and i can still shred when i want to...oh yeah lol.

Your current rig with a fender loaded up front should be able to nail that kinda stuff it'll just give it another flavour.I personally like low output single coils through a high gain amp or pedal,it gives cut and definition whilst the gain gives me the body and sustain to the sound that i need.I'm a lead player and the mark series amps that i use have an aggressive mid range that's good for that kinda playing where as the recto inspired amps are more bottom and scooped sounding and better for rhytmn type playing imo(which would suit the type of stuff your playing).

From one Gibson player to another. If you are wanting a Fender vibe guitar that plays more like a Gibson, check out the Tom Anderson Cobra. I was wanting a guitar with the telecaster shape and sound, but not the noisy pickups. I now have two of them. :D

bartchamdoh what are your Mark 2 settings? I recently picked up a Strat and I am still dialing things in. Long time Les Paul player.

Does anyone switch between Strat style guitars and Humbucker guitars? If so do you adjust your amp settings?

Hi mikebu i,ve got an old(1983) transitional mark 2b sixty watter loaded with all the options. It has the black top hat style knobs as opposed to the fender style knobs of the earlier mark series amps.I,ve removed the reverb tank(it,s been converted to a short head at the mo) so that it sits better on my cabs(i use an rv-5 in the loop for verb).I,ve never got good settings that work for foot switching. so i either set it up clean and run pedals up front or use it as a dedicated lead amp using the volume control on my guitar to clean up my guitar sound for rythmn playing. For lead my settings are volume 10/treble 10/bass 0/middle 2/master between 2&3/lead drive 8/lead master 5ish/presence 9.I set the eq to a classic v but cut the bass side and boost the treble side to get rid of the flub....man it,s a lead players dream lol, i would cut back the volume to 8 or 9 when using a les paul.My other main gigging boogie amp is a purple stripe mark 3 short head which i set up very similarly ...hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will check that out.
Do you find yourself switching settings due to switching brands?

I might mess with the tone knob on the Anderson guitars, as they are a littlie brighter sounding than my LP. Nothing crazy, it depends on the mood I'm in. I do not feel the need to touch the amp controls, though. The Anderson neck feels very much like my '60s neck Les Paul. 8)

When I run my Jaguar Baritone through the Dual Rec, my wife calls it " Soundtrack for the apocalypse." :)

I saw a guy recently playing a stock Tele though a Tremoverb, and it was some of the sweetest live gain tones I've ever heard.

I'm the original owner of a mark 2c+ 60 watt with EQ and Reverb. I had been not using the EQ when I play the Strat and I have been turning the mid up from 3 to 5 and engaging the Deep switch. I'll try using the EQ and see how I like it.

Thanks

I change guitars to get different tones, but I also have a clean boost pedal if I want to get the same gain/thickness out of a strat or tele.

Usually I plug my US custom shop Jackson RR directly into my Mesa/Boogie Quad preamp and my homebuild Fender Stratocaster for my Marshall 2104 50 watt combo.

Inspired by this thread I plugged my Strat directly into my Quad and found the tones set for my Jackson were pretty spot on for my strat and only slightly tweaks was needed as I always find anyway.

Since I put Fender '69 pickups years ago that Strat has been able to sound one of a kind and Mesa higain can work very well.

If the Fender sounds great regardless of the amp then a Mesa would work and so will alot of others too.

I have a T-62 (HamerUSA strat) that sounds phenomenol through my DC-5. I installed
some Lollar Blackface pups in it and it is now my number one guitar.

To answer the question- I use 3 different Andersons with my same amp settings- A TAG Classic (strat), a TAG Tele style with 3 P-90's, and a TAG Hollow T- maple on alder with H-S-H. So, I move between single coils, P-90s and Humbuckers with my mark IV. My intent is to have the different characteristics of the guitars come through for different tones and styles, rather than have everything sound like one tone. The challenge is usually in finding a clean setting that makes the Strat shine, while getting just a little fur when I switch to P-90's. Likewise, there is a sweet spot on the lead channel where the Humbuckers or P-90's sing, sustain, and roll into feedback, while the Strat isn't too harsh and has a pleasing lead tone. Sometimes, I need to give a slight nudge on the midrange control. I use channel 2 crunch rhythm tones primarily with the Humbuckers and set it up for those. The P90's work well there too, but the Strat sounds thin, so I will use a pedal as needed or use an overdrive pedal on the clean channel for overdriven Strat tones.

It can be done. Of course, I play in a cover band, so my whole job is to cop a wide variety of tones, rather than have a single personal tone or one style.

Strat + mark series is wAy cool

I actually use a gl legacy, the mid heavy mark sings with the
single coil bite... Great combo.... Really made me appreciate
the mark series flexibility
