Looking for some guidance here. I need to replace the colling fan in my 83 MKIIB Simulclass head. I have a new fan ordered from Mesa.
Is this something realtively simple to change out on my own or better left to a tech?
I can't really see how the fan is attached since tubes, reverb pan etc are in the way.
I realize of course it means taking the chasis out of the cab to get at it. I'm ok with simple stuff like swapping tubes but that's about it!

Thanks in advance for the great knowledge and willingness to help fellow Boogie owners I've seen on this board!

Hi paaes335,

It is an easy job to do. I have done it on my MKIIB head, but the headshell is more recent, probably MK IV, so there may be a difference with yours (?), but it shouldn't be much more difficult, I think...
- The fan cable is plugged in a conventional 2 prong US socket hidden at the left of the PWR Xfo (fan is powered in 117VAC).
- The fan is attached to the frontface of the headshell by small brackets, through a rectanguar hole. To access the mounting screws of the brackets, you need to remove the front grille frame (4 screws), as these are accessible from the front of the headshell.
- I am not sure if it is compulsory to remove the chassis from the shell, but nonetheless, it may ease the fan dismantling/installation process.

If you're really in a mess with that, I think that I took some pictures about that and I can load it and post it

A+!

Thanks so much, i would never have thought about accessing the fan through the front panel.
If it's not too much trouble I would really appreciate seeing the photos.

Best,

Hi paaes335,

Sorry to be late - here are some pics of my headshell. Unfortunately, nothing showing exactly how is the fan mounted by a view from the front face. And now this fan is removed for replacement (to come) by a 12VDC model smaller and silent, with variable speed.

As you can see, the fan is mounted through a hole in the fixed front face, behind the removable front grille panel :

You can see the brackets at the right, which are screwed on the said fixed front face, the screws beeing accessible via the front of the headshell, when the front grille panel is removed :

Folks, I need another of the power cables for the above fan..
Can't find it Down Under - and it probably seems like a stupid question, but what name does it go by as google and Farnell/Element 14 are yielding nothing too..
Ta, Dave

Dave they are common cables.
Allied has them though they are rip off price wise.

Also the plug on the end is something you can get at any hardware store here in the US.
I'd send you a complete one (plug and all) but shipping to AU would be expensive $25+-.
Dumb considering it'll weigh all of about 2 ounces....
