I love the sound of my Ace, but I want to beef up the sound a bit and add some, yes, low end to counter the inherit brightness. I'm stuck between going with an Avatar 2x12 "contemporary" style cab with 2 G12H30's or a Genz Benz G-Flex 2x12 cab. I'd like to go with a darker sounding speaker/cab setup. Also, I have the green Ace, so the Avatar would be cool since I could custom order the color of the cab.

Any thoughts or experiences with running an extension cab with the Ace combo?

I put my Ace combo on top of a Mesa 3/4 back cab with one 12" C90. The
cab is black and the amp is tan, but I can live with it. They are very close to
the same size, so it looks nice. I tried several things to tame the brightness-
the cab helped, Doug's preamp tubes helped, but, to me, the real difference was
swapping the speaker in the Ace for a C90. I know not everyone would agree,
but I got the sound I like. Even my 52 Tele RI sounds meaty without the icepick
thing. I also use a Les Paul through it, and I like classic rock tones. Early Joe
Walsh, Cream, Allman Bros., etc... Jeff

I swapped my V30 with a C90 when I had my Ace combo. It certainly smoothed out the amp but at the expense of the bite and aggressiveness that the V30 offered. I'm not a C90 fan - there's something about it that just bugs me.
