Does anyone have any clips of the 5:50 yet? I am really interested in hearing some of the tones, especially any high gain tones it'll do.

Ask and ye shall recieve!

Obligatory "Yes I suck" Proviso: Guitar and amp were in the room with me and couldn't really hear the metronome (Yes I need it), I seldomly record guitars, and first instrument is keyboard! No, I did not spend a lot of time on this. The timing sucks BIG, but you get the idea. This is a generic riff that was laid down explicitly for this forum's request.

Now that's out of the way:

Guitar: Les paul classic with WCR pickups. Bridge position. Drop D tuning.
SM57 6" from grill off center->DRS2 preamp with HP filter IN->Delta 1010LT converters. (I think I clipped the preamp a little)

Amp in 50 watt mode, burn.
Gain 2:00, Treble 10:30, Mid 3:00, Bass 11:00 Contour in 5:30 (Full) Master 8:00, A smidge of amp reverb.

EDIT: If I were to do it again, I'd take down the gain and bass, but let it go through the mic preamp full bandwidth. Also no verb as that was an accident. Still getting to know this amp!

Processing is roll off at 8k, and gentle compression.

Enjoy!

Thanks NuSkoolTone, I was really looking forward to checking out the 5:50 clip, but the link does not seem to work for me. Not sure if it's just me or if anyone else is having same problem?

Yeah, not working for me either. NuSkool, can you use YouSendIt or something similar? I really appreciate it man. I have to drive an hour to a place that even has Mesa, let alone the 5:50.

****.. let me look into it.

EDIT: Hmm, using the same format to host images for my auctions. Still not working? Try a "Save target as" and see if that works. It's a small file.

Wow alot heavier than I expected. Nice. 8)

Sounds very F-series, which in turn, sounded a like a less-complex 'Mark'.

Sorry to disagree, but I didn't think it sounded like the F-series at all. Then again, clips can be very deceiving.

This is what my F-100 sounds like to me:

Yup. A/B'ing them they are similar but the Express is NOT the F series. For heavier low mid chunk stuff I'd still prefer the F Series. The Express gets the nod for versatility. I'm actually trying to get a hold of boogie to see what mods are possible. If I could modify the Burn mode to be more F-Series like, ESPECIALLY if it's something simple that could go on a push-pull pot I'd be quite the happy camper. The burn mode on the Express is like a half way point between the LS and the F series.

It won't be for at least a year, but I could see an F series short head in my future. As always I reserve the right to change my mind, but I actually prefer the F series heavy tone to the (Newer) Rectos.

Added Some more Clips to soundclick: (Similar riff)

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=662903

This time with different settings on the amp and no filter on the mic preamp. The 3rd clip is the same with some post editing EQ. Both have compression.

These clips aren't as crispy and by all accounts are better. Still not the same as an F-series. More "Marshall" I'd say.

@Hal9000: When you made those clips, did you have anything in the loop? Also how much post processing did you do? Just curious. It sounds like an F-series, but not like a naked one to me.

I imagine it'd sound pretty killer with a Tube Screamer-type pedal in front of it, just as an F-50 does. I've got an SD1 off to AnalogMan for modding to TS808 specs which should sound really cool.

Added last Express clip and Comparison F-50 clip.

I'm probably not capturing the whole difference, though I don't think it's subtle the F-50 just has more balls.

Thanks for taking the time to record and post these. The tone is similar but the F-50 definitely has more balls. And I like balls!! Just kidding (Team America reference).

I put down a bid on ebay for an F-50 head earlier this week and I'll find out today if I win the bid.

*EDIT* Yup, I got it! Now I just need to wait for this guy to ship it out to me..

:D

The first two are recorded with an SM-57 left and e609 right straight into my Line6 Toneport UX-2 with no processing or EQ.

The last three are using my silent recording setup and are purposely dark sounding:

Ah I see. Sounds like the Hotplate is taking it the Extra mile. How do you like it? Also two mics vs. 1 57. How are you panning? Panned L/R and doubled? Or Each panned to the same side doubled?
