I just bought a late-80s MarkIII (blue stripe). Amp sounds terrible through the stock EVM. Hooked it up to a small Princeton speaker and it sounds perfect. Think the EVM needs a recone. Does anybody have advice on who can recone the speaker with an EV recone kit? Looking for top quality service. Thanks--

You need to have the speaker tested. If a voltage is 6-9 volt charge is put to the speaker and it moves normally, if probably does not need a recone.
If you do need a recone, deal with a company certified to do EV repair and warranty work. There is a list of certified speaker repair companies in the back of vintage guitar magazine. Luckily, I have a local comany called the Speaker Doctor who has been in business for ever and has many pre references.

Just be sure that whoever recones it uses the proper kit. There is a kit that has the voice coil and everything. The other kits will not sound the same nor give the speaker any justice.
