I have decided I should take my 2 x EV SRO/12's (I think they might be older than me), and put em in 2, 1x12 cabs, to run 1 each with my .50 Cal and Musicman 112-65RP. I had been considering a 2x12 cab for them, before I got the .50. I was wondering if anyone knows if the AlNiCo SRO/12 would be sonically close enough to a EV12L to dump them in Thiele cabs and function as expected.

I have been neglecting the SRO's for the last few months. One is in my MM, and other is still in my Peavey Renown 400 (yea, I had both in it before the MM and .50 came along, talk about a ***** to move). Since I got the .50 cal, I don't play the MM much, cept in stereo with the .50 cal, and the Peavey has been relegated to coffee table status.

I don't want to spend money to make cabs for a trial and error scenario. I can't find ANY specs on the SRO/12. If I had a spec sheet, I could figure out if getting some empty thiele's made would be worth trying out. I am sure a open back 1x12 would work, but after I have read up on the Thiele, I started thinking what SRO's would sound like in one.

My goal is to use these to fill out the bottom end of the my rig.

Thoughts? Ideas?

The SRO's would likely sound lovely in a theile but consider this. If you like it LOUD the 100watt SRO may not hold up in the low frequency environment especially if you're into heavy bottom ended tone. They were notorious for failure in loud rock amps but are real gems for the cleaner jazzier sounds. If your SRO's are as you say in real nice shape it's very likely there is someone who'd trade you some 12L's 200watt for them. It would be a real shame to see the original cones blown in a vintage speaker like that because it's really hard to get them reconed back to spec. 12L's on the other hand aren't too hard to find.

I am about to pick up another SRO but so far I haven't put mine in the thiele. They aren't built for front loading...as heavy as they are I feel better with it rear loaded in a 1x12 cab. I did have it in my Mark III combo for a while :D

Maybe I'll do some swapping this weekend and tell you how it sounds.

I always thought they were 60w or so, not 100w.
