Eq this and that

Sounds like a lot of us here use the MXR KFK EQ. Now, I'd like to learn still more about the Tc electroncs G system, as it sounds as if it is more than an EQ, and I might be interested in it. The KFK does just what a graphic EQ should, and that is to boost or cut specified frequencies while not adding any noise or changes in tonal characteristics. But maybe the G system does more?

Parametric EQs are a bit tougher to dialin, but when you sculpt your sound, ultimately they are superior.
Especially multiband units.

For me, it's not most important how many bands an EQ has, since most have more than necessary anyway. It's far more important which frequencies it governs. It's got to cover 100Hz, 200-250Hz, 800Hz, and 3.2kHz. Those are consistently the most crucial IME.

1.2kHz, 500-600Hz, and 400Hz are all very useful under the right circumstances, too.

MXR makes a six-band that's got you covered, with an 18 db boost and cut no less! :) I feel that my MXR KFK 10 band has too many bands at too many frequencies to be useful, as well. It's got 8K and 16K HZ, for example, and the average guitar speaker doesn't put out anything above 5 HZ! But it is otherwise a useful and quiet tool.

I use the in-built graphic EQ in my MarkIV amp head. I also run a Danelectro Fish & Chips graphic EQ pedal in front of the amp, occasionally.

I have a rackmount 5-band parametric EQ unit but don't use it much now.

The KK has two outputs because he used it for a splitter. That and the paint job I think is it.

I'm going to check that out...need something for my Triaxis that will fit in the rack drawer.
