Hey guys,
I installed an 81 with 2 sa pickups on my strat, New 81. I run this through a Triaxis and 290. Also a Boss pedal EQ in the effects loop. I noticed a hum and buzz when they were installed. I thought maybe I did something wrong so I took it in to a local big shop to have it looked at, he installed another volume pot, resoldered some connections and called it fixed. I got home and it was not. I then ordered the KH21 with 2 81's and 2 volumes and 1 tone. I installed that and still had the same problem. Then I changed tubes from the Russian tubes to a whole new set from Eurotubes, JJ's put together specifically for the 290 and triaxis. 6L6 GC's and ECC83S's. I was very frustrated. Lastly, I broke everything down. The guitar into the 290, guitar >Hafler Mosfet power amp, guitar>triaxis into both poweramps at different times, guitar>ADA MP1 >both power amps at different times, AND then all these combos with a Hum Eliminator inline with lots of combinations.
Still the same result .....can someone help me find out what is wrong? I am spendind money left and right and am ready to burn everything in the drive way!

are the pickups and/or electronics grounded to the bridge of the guitar? the emg instructions say they shouldn't be

Let me know what the deal is, I have the same problem with my Luke set, tried everything and they still hum. Bummer!

I think EMG might have had a defective run of pickups some time recently. Maybe a year or two ago, I had the SAME problem with an EMG 81. Took it back to Guitar Center, they swapped it for me, and I've been perfect ever since.

Just saying it may be the pickup itself. It's been some time since it happened to me, and it hasn't happened since with new EMGs, but I have gotten a defective pickup.

Best of luck!
