I was thinking of popping in some EL34s in my LSC, has anyone tried this? What changes does it make to the dirty and clean tones??

Sounds good, but it's a trade-off. The clean channel loses some of it's sweetness but the gain channel get's a little more attitude.

Some EL34's have more "grit" than others. I am currently using Mesa STR-442's (SED Winged C's) in my newly aquired Lonestar 10/50/100. They dont seem to hurt the clean channel as much as some of the other brands (sovtek, EH, etc...). They get a very nice break-up in the 10 watt mode with the master at the 3 o'clock position (loop bypassed). :D

I liked them in my old Lone Star. The clean was more like a Hendrix clean, and ch.2 sounded creamy with more Marshall type haze. It still sounded like a Lone Star though.

Have el34s in my LSC now and very much like them. They came with the amp when I bought it (used). The cleans lose a miniscule amount of warmth but nothing extreme. Still the best clean this side of a Fender Twin. The dirty channel brightens up nicely and indeed does have the old Marshall vibe happening. My next adventure is to try the LSC with 6v6s.

If you really want a sweet tube in the Lonestar try 6V6's. I never liked the EL-34's in mine but he 6V6's were amazing.
