EL34 vs KT88??

Is it possible to swap out EL34s for KT88s on a mark III? I have heard that some amps it is possible but that the plate voltage needs to be higher on a KT88 or something. Anyone elaborate on this?

No .... it could be modified to use them or you could get way off spec KT88's. Mesa well tell you not to do this to the amp.

A guy on sevenstring.org I talked to uses KT77s in the outter sockets of his red stripe, he says he loves it, when the **** site is up I could dig up his user name and you can ask him all about it.

KT77 are a form of EL34 and are very different than KT88. I use JJ KT77 in my Tremoverb sometimes. I like them more than a lot of tubes in that amp. By far my favorite is old 6CA7. 6CA7 are a other other EL34 type.
