Dual Recto FX loop feedback

I have never been able to get my FX loop to work correctly on my 2002 dual rectifier without feedback no matter how much I play with the mix and level of both the amp and the effect. Could it be broke? I am currently trying to use it with a PODxt Live but I can plug in just a regular acoustic simulator pedal into it and I just can't get any volume with it without feedback no matter how I set the output of the pedal, fx mix or level, or the amp channels. Everything sounds great plugged into the front of the amp.

Is the FX loop on these amps just lame, is mine broke, or am i missing something on dialing this in?

I have the same problem with my 2 channel Dual Rec and Pod XT.

turn off the speaker emulator

It won't work with any effect, not just a POD.
