Dual Recto Clips!

Hey guys!

I finally got my REAL recording setup together, so I thought I'd throw some tracks together to share!

Rig hasn't changed and is in my sig!

The recording setup is:

- Shure SM57
- Mackie Onyx 400F Firewire Interface
- Apple Macbook
- LaCie 160 GB External Harddrive
- Sennheisser HD280 Pro Closed-Back Headphones
- Garageband (to be Tracktrion 2 when Apple makes an update for the Intel macs)

All comments and feedback are welcome. I didn't play with mic placement too much....found something decent and went with it. Playing isn't perfect either, but hey.

There is definitely room for improvement! More tweaking of placement, and amp tone (which I didn't do any of)! And definitely more volume....output was only on about 1 or 2 tops

hi....

just been hearing the clips on your page and i liked clean tones, but the hi gain ones lack trble and middle, it happens a lot when you just record the amp and leave it that way, I've been experiencing mine (dual rect as well) and I added more middle and trble after recording, but messing around with the eq and it went out ok. A more defined sound, more balls.
SO try to to record and make the most out of the recording by equalizing.

That's my opinion...

I listened to all of the clips except the clean and i think they sound good. IMO you amp sounds really thick and smooth but a little too much bass and not enough mids like stated before me. I thought ur original was cool and it had a cool vibe to it but the solo dropped off right at the end. Im not saying it was bad but the last not could be different in it. Anyways just my constructive critiscism so dont take it personal. I liked it though adn i wish i had recording equipment. I just use my computer crap but oh well. Good luck and keep up the good work.

not bad for a first time. the trick is mostly all about getting the perfect cut (after the perfect sound), and THEN the hard part begins...the editing
but it wasn't bad. you're obviously not doing studio tracks. this is just to show some samples, so good stuff.

actually...figuring out where all the **** cables go is the hard part! you got that down! solo tone is very nice

Thank you very much guys! I'm going to try to dial in more treble on the recording next time...my mids are at 2 o'clock, so they are not low....I need to work on the mic placement to optimize it also!

Sounds good man, very tremonti-esque, haha, if that's what you're going for...if not, well, uhh it uhh didn't sound like him at all.....I enjoyed it though, tone is pretty darn good, not the best, but you'll get there man. You've got alot of potential my friend!

I think your crunch tones are the best, they're nice and articulate, although personally, I would lay off the treble very very slightly. Your clean is alright, it needs more sparkle, but it probably has to do with mic/placement. The SM57 is really sensitive to placement, so keep fiddling around with it. If the amp sounds fine to you in person, then chances are, its the mic placement.

About your hi-gain tones, your mids are fine, it does not sound muddy or anything at all, to me, at least. That said, I think it needs more gain and more balls. The single notes seem really dead, I guess the same goes for the Crunch tone, too.

How loud were you playing?

Please don't take this negatively, I'm just stating my opinion. Your clean and hi-gain clips are alright, but I think your crunch tone sounds the best.

Volume wise, it is really low....maybe 1 or 2 on the output......

That was my "live playing setting", which isn't too good for recording, as I found.

I redid two of the clips!

if you're going for tremonti tones, i got his exact settings for clean and hi-gain in my pc at home. needless to say they sound fantabulous. scooped to hell, but fantabulous. especially the clean. can u say bass all the way??

I definitely wouldn't mind the Tremonti settings either.....they will be tweaked, but why not give it a try!

ok...here it goes...these are on a knob-based style, as in 1 to 10, not am/pm. he grew up playing those knobs so he refers to them in that way, regardless of the lack of numbers on mesas.


Fender twin: across the board on the second input-- 3.5 7 5 9 4.75 1 1

Mesa triple recto, 3ch. Modern mode: bass 10 treble6 mids4 gain6 pres3.5

again, these are not o'clock positions. these are 1-10 number positions. in case you wonder where i got these, do a google for mark tremonti live rig video or something of that nature. the fender one sounds awesome thru my buddies fender twin. the mesa one also sounds awesome. play some higher and enjoy!
