Dual-Recto boost with active pickup(s) guitar???

So I have a '95 blackface dual recto... I have been playing it with a Rocktron Pro-Q in the loop for years now... I threw a TS-9 in front of it, bypassing the loop, and I got some stuff that I liked.
Pretty much all my guitars have EMG-81's in them.. with the Dual-Rec, and the Pro-Q, I have been able to get some sick-tight-low end distortion and some pretty usable lead tones.
I was curious if anyone else was using a dual-rec with a overdrive pedal for boost, and using a guitar with active pickups.
I have heard that the active pickups alone tighten everything up, so I imagine the results are less dramatic for using an active guitar, rather than one with passive pups??

I never really liked the sound of the TS9 for boost. It always thinned out my sound and made it a little more grainy.

I've got a few different types of pups and I have to say that the actives are nothing more than a different flavor. They won't tighten or loosen the amp any more than a one or another type of passive pup.

A boost pedal and good EQ settings will tighten it up, although I've never had very good luck with a TS9.

I wound up not using one. My TR was tight enough to where if I brought up treble and presence a little, it was good enough. However, I've heard many good things about Fulltone OCDs.

I've used the Maxon OD9 in the past for the same purpose, with the same amp, with the same pickups, and it worked pretty well. Now I'm using 2 heads with a Dual Rec EQ'd for leads, but obviously that's a somewhat more expensive solution.
