I think it's deceptively difficult to capture that Recto "boom." I have a '57, an AT3035 large-diaphragm condensor, and a PreSonus BlueTube dual-path micpre. Very difficult to get the "boom" without the "flab." I know one thing though, two mics always sounds "bigger." Kinda like, twice as big. Plus, you can play with the phase switch with a dual micpre and two mics.

Thanks for the input, Level4. Yeah, I'm very excited to play around with two mics after I get this SM57 figured out.

Charlie, cool page! I laughed at their blurb on the SM57.

Piece of **** dynamic mic some people are inexplicably crazy about, so we bought one. Sounds equivalently good on everything from snare drum to electric guitar. Unfortunately, not a very high standard of "Good." If you need to record something and there's no microphone available, this will do, I guess.

Seems a little harsh for a review of an industry standard mic. (Or is it not an industry standard?)

Well, I guess audiophiles just have high expectations.
