Hello there, I'd like some help from you guys please.

I've recently bought a second hand dual rectifier from a friend, a late 90's/early 2000's (haven't asked my friend exactly when) 2 channel Dual Rectifier and want to know this; there is an amazing amount of crackling and noise going on with the amp when I dial in a lot of gain; I use gain between the 2-3.30 o'clock position; quite a lot I know, but that's my sound. Is this normal? It really is noisy and want to know if it's normal? It had a service a few weeks ago. The noise is not solely hissy but CRACKLY!

If so, will an ISP decimator noise suppressor solve this as the distortion is from the amp and not from any pedals?

Thanks

Might need a new preamp tube. Or maybe it's not pushed in the socket enough. (Check 'em all) Prob time to retube the amp.... Is your guitar cable in good condition?

I pulled out and gave the contacts to the tubes a wipe for any oxidizing; this helped marginally. Cable is fine.

I managed to get the thing seen by my amp tech just now and it seems the pre-amp for my EMG pickups might be the problem; I tried it with my Les paul and no probs! It made the passive pafs sing almost like the EMGs I prefer; the amp is new to me and it's so exciting to use.

He did suggest also keeping an eye on the various electric/electronic appliances/lights etc that might be on in the vicinity. Amazing how sensitive the thing is!

Regardless, I have to say the dual rectifier is giving me hi-gain control like I've never been able to get prior; worth every penny, and the clean is lovely; very mature and glistening. I'm running through a home made cab with 2x12 vintage celestions and it's sounding beautiful. Great flexibility.

Great amp, very happy

Thanks for the suggestions and help. :D
