dual rec no sustain or feedback

hi, i have a 96 mesa dual rectifier.. the amp sounds strong but have noticed it lacking sustain and notes cut off or decay quick...also noticed it sounds awesome when first played but gets muddy and loses definition after about 30 min of playing (loud bedroom level) not band volume...i have tried 3 sets of new power tubes ruby 6l6 gcmstr,,tungsol 6l6gc, and groove tubes el34s....and have tungsol 12ax7's in it now...i have to turn the gain to 3 o'clock to get the amount of gain i get at 12 o'clock on my other rectos... i bought this amp used so dont know the history.. what does this problem sound like?.. otherwise the amp sounds good.

Technically the amp is 13 years old. Have you ever had the caps replaced? IMO it sounds like they are due for a change.

Maybe someone more technical savvy can agree or disagree with me. And give you a better answer.

i agree it could be a plate load resistor and/or coupling cap...i can take my hands off the guitar with gain at 3 oclock and no feedback....looks like time to find a tech....anybody know a good one in georgia?

When I turn my boost off, red channel, gain close to 3:00, I dont get any feedback either. Is that actually a bad thing for this amp?

I had the exact same problem with my rev. F DR.
My problem was..kind of.. pretty stuid.
Knobs in old heads, can get loose and sometimes the position of the pointer may not be correct.

My problem was that the pointer in the gain knob was not correct
I didn't even tried to dime the gain till the end as I already know that full gain setting doesn't make any sense for rectos, but it was mere yesterday that I found out that the pointer of the gain goes up to 6 o'clock position (usually, recto's gain knob ends at 4~5 o'clock position) as the joint of the nuts inside the chasis got loose..

Now that 3 o'clock gain in my DR means 1~2 o'clock of gain, actually, I get fierece, aggressive, pure rectifier tone with decent sustain out of my rev. F

Check your knobs if they can point correct status of each EQ & gain setting.
