Does anyone think this sounds like a recto??

If I had to guess, I'd say it's the combination of what sounds like Extreme mode and a really bright cabinet. [I have the same one, it kinda sucks] Does sound pretty Recto-y though.

Gibsons are one of the more popular guitars for Mesa artists - if you can't stand Gibson what would you recommend instead?

Is that .080 or .008 ?

I play my goldtop LP with .010-.046 Elixir Nanoweb strings tuned to E standard. I don't know if I can buurrrrnnn, but I can bend the piss out of the .010's. 8)

Are you seriously bragging about playing with .08's on a superstrat...and bitching about Gibsons...and calling someone a douche for pointing out that many people use them?

Ibanez hard to find? Perhaps you weren't around to see stores flooded with Ibanez...there's a reason you can't find them now....and it's not because of high demand. Crawl back in your hole.

I gotta admit I've always followed the "bigger string, bigger tone" rule. I typically run a .010 - .046 (light gauge) string set as it affords the best tone to bend ratio (in a standard tuning). I can certainly see running larger gauges for dropped tunings or predominately rhythm or straight soloing.

As for the Gibson thing, if it's neck-through and it's got some form of Humbucking pickup, it's a Gibson (well, actually it's a Les Paul). If it's bolt on, it's a Fender (even if it was made by Gibson) and regardless of pickups. How well it plays is strictly up to the person in whose hands it rests. A good player can play on anything well.

I've never not picked up a guitar because of the name on the headstock.

Neck through? I think you mean set neck. I don't think I've ever seen a neck through Les Paul.

Les Paul originally designed the guitar as a single block of wood that incorporated the the neck and pickup / bridge area.

But, yes, you're correct. Gibson chose to use set-neck instead of neck-through (cheaper, I suppose).

I think you have a pretty good sound. A oversized Recto cab would make almost make you "nail" the recto tone, but you can definitely tell it's a Mark do to the slightly more distorted/saturated sound. But it's probably the best sounding "metal" sound I've heard from people with a Mark yet.
