Does anybody here actually use the Oversized Standard cab?

Not me. I A/B'd the standard (oversized Recto) cabinet and the traditional (smaller Stilletto) cabinet in-store before I bought it. It was striking how much better the mids were in the Stilletto cab. Even the manager, a buddy of mine, was surprised at the difference since he'd never actually A/B'd them right next to each other before.

Given that my Triple Recto is already known for scooping out the mids a bit naturally, and is famous for its huge bass response, I went with the cab that would counterbalance those tendencies a bit, and therefore give me more versatility. I can still get more bass response than I would ever use out of the cabinet. Plus I get far clearer, more articulate mids out of the smaller cab, which is great for me since I play solos and also like to play songs from the classic rock era forward.

I just got a standard cab, and use it with a 5150 ii. I am debating on if i want to get the smaller one instead though. I dont know how much of a difference it will make to me, i know its supposed to be tighter and all. But I'd have to order it, I dont want the floor model. I also wanna pick up a mark iv one day, not sure what kinda differnece the cab will have with that either.

What kinda head you got, and why do you prefer the bigger cab? I am trying to convince myself to keep this, and get my own tone from it....

I'm with you Elpelotero, I'm using the oversize Recto 4X12 and I think it sounds great. I have a 'standard' size Laney 4X12 and honestly the Recto cab just sounds 'fuller' throughout the frequency range. I've never had a problem with the Recto cab being boomy especially with the bass under 12:00. In comparison the Laney sounds kind of boxey. The two together sound great BTW, but I think most of that is the speakers.

When I take the animal outside, it sounds wondrous with my 1992 recto. Inside though, which is where a lot of playing gets done unfortunately...not so wondrous. Very bassy and boomy.

I'm wondering if all the people who replaced theirs with a Traditional Stilleto cab never had the opportunity to play it loud outside.

Yesterday with my C+ I had to push in the "pull deep" knob to remove the boominess. I haven't been able to crank the C+ outside through the 4x12 so I wonder if outside I can hit the Pull Deep and not worry.

Absolutly :!: My Roadster sounds HUGE with the Recto cab when she's up to volume, and not just in Modern. Vintage has most definatly become my favorite when the amp is loud. In comparison the Laney cab will eventually reach a point where the "punch" starts to level off, to me it seems like the Recto cab just keeps hitting harder no matter how loud. I've never tried the Standard "Stiletto" cab but it would probably keep up with the punch better than the Laney.

Most of the time my output stays under 10:00 (yea, it's still loud), Vintage master at 11:00-11:30, Modern around 9:30-10:00. Try to keep the cab at least 3 feet from the wall, and never put it in a corner, the bass resonance will run away to boomy-land real quick.

Stiletto for me all the way. I AB'd them side by side in my home and the Stiletto cab blew the oversized one out of the water.

Just sounded better all around and had GOBS of low end, or not depending on if you dialed it out.

The oversized was more bassy by nature and took more tweaking to dial out the lows. I could not believe what a difference therer was between 2.x inches in vertical height. Width and depth, speakers and wiring are the same.

Stiletto... All the way.

To each his own... however I had both the 2x12 Recto cabinet and the 2x12 Stiletto cabinet and for me and what I'm looking for the Stiletto cabinet was perfect.

Also a Traditional Cab lover here...owned the oversized, and could never bet along with the tone it put out....the low end was big, but to me it was boomy, and the cab sounded hollow.

A/Bed it with a traditional, and right then and there, I learned how much of a difference a cab can make. Been using the traditional ever since!

I use to have the oversized 4x12. years ago. It sounded AWESOME but, I always fely it was laking a tighter lowend. Don't gt me wrong.... the lowend was there but not as punchy as I would have liked it. Now my 2x12 recto cab is a whole other story. Now that little sucked can dish out the punch like boxing heavy weight CHAMP!!!!!!!
