Im pretty much certain to buy a new mark IV and sell my Dual Rectifier. I was just curious about the recording facility of the mark IV. just wondered what the quality was like, im not expecting it to be as good as mic'd but it would be much easier for me to record it direct as i have quite a reverby room and it will obviously prevent any bleed.

Also, is the effects loop series or parellel. The manuel seems to suggest series but a website description calims its parallel.

Thanks

Hi
The loop in the Mark IV is series.

As far as the direct recording if you want to bang out an idea 2:00 in the mourning it’s acceptable for a demo sure, but beyond that wellll hmm.
The biggest problem there in my view is you not only loose the cabinet and room sound you have but you also lose the flavor of the power amp as well. If forced to record direct I would rather use a POD or Guitar Rig 2 or something of that nature.
But on the other hand setting up two tracks for a take and using a mic’d cab and the direct record line and mixing them can at times get some unique and pleasing results.

As far as to much reverb in your room experiment with moving the cabinet ore something also throw things by the cabinet even some large empty cardboard boxes placed the right can radically change the mic’s perception of the room.
If playing the amp loud is not a problem for you I would start experimenting with moving the cabinet around and some homemade baffles record all of your experiments after some time you will get a feel for the room.

I recorded these using the line out in the v-amp cab 15 sim for a test, and for a bit of fun. They don't sound great, but not too bad either.

The cab sims seem to add some gain and fizz :(

i did this one
i really really like it
i think it sounds great

it was markIV ---> computer
straight in, no other processing
i added a slight delay on the computer
and the mark IV's reverb knob was up full

cheers guys, thats decent recording quality for my liking! Certainly wont have to go and buy a pod anymore. Anyway the playing was nice too, both petrucci fans so i wudnt expect any less. Your jam was really nice deskman, some tasty funky licks there, think im gonna have to work on my lukather licks now.
