The channel switches are momentary pushbutton switches. Momentary switches are spring loaded and move the switch contacts only as long as you push the actuator. They come in two varieties: Normally Open, which close the contacts only when you step on them, and Normally Closed, which are usually closed and the contacts are opened when you stop on them. The channel switches are most likely Normally Open Momentary switches. The switches for the other functions are latching pushbutton switches. Those are like traditional on/off toggle switches. You stomp once to close the contacts and stomp again to open the contacts.
