Neither of these pedals is worth a ****. Look for an 808, even the re-issue, and make sure it has a JRC4558D chip in it.

Here's the deal. As electronics matured manufacturers tightened design and manufacturing specs. This resulted in products using those components that sounded better, and remember, these products were not Tube Screamers. They were audio devices for the most part and they were supposed to sound nice. Closer tolerences actually eliminate many of the desired 2nd and 3rd order harmonics we like to hear.

I like my 808. I don't know that I'd say the others aren't worth a ****, or not.

I had a cheap plastic sound tank TS5 (?) something that was really good until it died.

Go with what ya like.

Best of luck.

Murph.

i used to have the ts9 i went out tried the ts9dx liked it better, it seems to add more mids than the ts9. the ts9 seems to have more high end where the ts9dx in ts9 mode has the same high end and a lil more mids... and of course you have the mode control which adds different flavors and different bass and mid eqs to the drive

Have a look to the Maxon version. I have the OD808 (TS808 replica) and is great!!

Those are both good pedals...I have them both, plus a two vintage TS-9's and an old 808. The new Screamers are great pedals...There's no reason to think the new ones perform any less than the old ones. The differences in tone are subtle, and I sure can't really tell the difference while playing with my band.

Having said that.....I've been gigging a Turbo...in some rooms we play...my amp sounds a little limp....the Turbo has a couple of extra voices that are useful in those rooms.
