How about channel cloning like Recto heads??? It would be much more useful to be able to also switch between two green channels and two red, instead of just green and red.

Okay okay, I know MIDI contolled relay switching could get close, but what if you (I) wanted two different EQ settings for Modern mode.

Just sayin'

I reckon that would be rather handy.

I also think they should make a 400+ Preamp. How awesome would that be? Bassists (and guitarists like myself who want to record though the 400+) could finally record straight in. At the moment that's kinda possible with the XLR out, but I still need to put a cab on there to take to poweramp's load. That means I can't get the amp anywhere near loud enough to get a great overdrive tone.

With a 400+ preamp a bassist could just use a 2:100 or a 2:90 or whatever as a poweramp and huzzah! 400+ rig for people who dont need 500w

One potential flaw in your theory is, in my opinion, most of the Boogie magic comes from the power section of the head or power amp.

My bass player has a Line6 bass podXT, (I think that's the one...) that he uses just for recording and it gets damn close to the whole 400+ sound at low or direct volume. I think Line 6 calls it the "California" model.

Oh, and EVERYONE needs 500 watts.

Oh yeah, on my Recto pre redesign... from another thread, what about an effects loop bypass on the footswitch. Now, that would be one hot amp.

Maybe Mesa would suggest I just buy a Triaxis.

One of my favourite bass tones from from Karl K from Shihad.

I asked him what he does and he says Preamp to 10 and then just turn up the volume until its at the right level. He said he used to do it the other way around but its better the new way.

However, doesn't the Recording Preamps simulate a poweramp?
Also, What if one was to use it with a smaller power amp. The 400+ is just 6L6 tubes so someone could use 4 instead of 12 and it would be quiter.

Also, I dont need 500w when i'm doing this at home :p

Just give me a g*****n serial fx loop. The Rec Pre's live outs are so hot that it utterly buttrapes pedals even when the live out is barely turned on.

So far, the list of pedals that are man enough to handle the output:

Maxon AD-900 analog delay
Subdecay Quasar phaser

And those that have tried and failed...

T-Rex Roommate Reverb
Boss RV-3 Delay/Reverb
EH Holier and Holiest Grail reverbs
Red Witch Deluxe Moon Tremolo/Phaser
Empress Effects Tremolo
Boss ME-10 multifx
