Here's a youtube vid I just did of some shameless noodling  . It gives an example of how versatile the Deuce is along with an Epi LP Ultra II. Keep in mind that it recorded with the camcorder mic, so hi fi it aint  . Channel 1 is on tight clean, and channel 2 is fluid drive.

Pretty cool playing man, Better tone than my clip, Is there much differance between the ace, and Duece, Other than the wattage???

Thanks guys! Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I was out of the country for the week.

To my ears, there isn't a huge difference between Ace and Deuce. There is some, but I can't say how much is attributed to the transformer (really the only difference), and how much is because the Ace I had was a combo, and the Deuce is a head obviously going through a different cab than the Ace. I thought the Ace was a little brighter, but again different speakers in my case. Both are edgy and a little angry - which I like 8)

Have you tried plugging your cabinet into the 4 ohm output on the head and then dropping it to the 50 watt power setting? Makes it brighter like the Ace.

Hey srf399. Actually the G12-65's I have are 8 ohm, so my choices when I built the cab were series --> 16 ohm, or parallel --> 4 ohm. I decided I didn't want the safe mismatch, so I went with 4 ohm, and I'm plugged into the 4 ohm jack on the Deuce. I almost always have it on 50 watt including the video on this thread. Some day if I ever add another cab to the rig, I'll have to rewire to 16 ohm so I have room to add. I wish my speakers were 16's so I could wire them to 8, but it wasn't an option. I bought them from my brother, who bought them in 1982 and gigged them heavily through the 80's and 90's. They are well broken-in (to say the least) original G12-65's and compliment the Deuce perfectly to my ears. 8)

Hey Geiri,
My amp settings are actually pretty neutral. Most things are between 10 and 2:00 with the exception of presense on the gain channel - have it at 8-9:00. If you want specifics I'll have to look tonight when I'm in front of the amp  .

Man, the cabinet was a great project. There's a guy I work with (electrical engineer) who is into woodworking and furniture building. He has a 12x20 shed in his backyard that is his workshop with all the toys you could imagine (he has GAS but its for power tools instead of guitars). Anyway, we followed the specs for the Stiletto 2x12 cab, went and bought raw cherry planks and went to work. None of the joints are butt joints - everything is tongue and groove. We dry fit it when everything was cut to size and it fit together like a puzzle so snug, I doubt this thing would come apart without glue  . But we glued it anyway  . When it was all dry, I brought it home and sanded and sanded and sanded, then 2 coats of cherry stain, then 3 coats of urethane. I left the back 1/3 open so I didnt' have to deal with figuring out air volumes and porting and baffling etc. It gets plenty of low end response as semi-open (for my taste anyway). Hard-core metal heads may disagree. The final step was installing the G12-65's. They are not as biting as the V30 but still get plenty of growl and can get face-melting loud!

I wanted something that would not out-class but not get out-classed by the Deuce. I love the way it turned out and when people see it in person, I get plenty of "wow's" 8)

Thanx dude

I love the way it looks, very high end and it sounds amazing as well from your recordings. On the video you are also using an overdrive pedal right ?
I get similar results with my mxr zw od in front trough the recto 2x12 with the V30's. But like you said more bite and less smoothness. So now I'm thinking it might be cool to swap one of the V30's for a greenback to smooth it out and get a different bass response.

I've gotta tell you that it was your tone and playing that got me interested in the stilettos, especially the " stiletto jam " on your website. Very nice playing and a stellar tone. Thanks for sharing that with us. Would post your od settings as well ?

Thanks Geiri  . Man, those are some really nice comments and I really appreciate it.

Yes, I'm using a TS-9 in front of the amp. I have the drive very low (around 9:00) so all it's doing is giving the amps gain a kick in the pants. I have the tone at 11:00 so it takes a bit of the treble edge off. For straight rhythm I don't use it, but for leads I like that little extra sustain and smoothness it gives.

That's a cool idea to try some speaker combinations. Just keep in mind that the V30 is a very aggressive speaker with high output. If you put a greenback in with it, the V30 may overpower it and you won't hear much difference. I can tell you from experience that a 1x12 with a V30 sounds louder than my 2x12 with G12-65's with everything else being equal. Check on the speaker manufacturers web sites to try to find speakers that match up in efficiency and output 8)

Thanx for the info

Then instead of mixing them I might want to swap both for greenbacks. I'm gonna try to find a 2x12 cab with greenbacks and check out how the stiletto sounds through that.

Keep those fingers flying

:D
