Gonna buy one of these.

How do they differ? I'm edging toward the dc-5 because of dual eq's mostly. How do they differ in terms of gain on the OD? What about cleans?

I love good cleans. for blues, jazz, whatever. But i also love insane metal crunchiness. I wanted an F-50 because it sounds more like a recto but its abit out of my price range. So i'm down to the older dual caliber or .50 caliber. OD is more important than cleans to me, but explain both anyways. Which one will suit me better for modern metal stuff?

Well, I've never used the .50 caliber or the F-50 but I have owned a DC-5 for the past 8 years probably and enjoy it alot. Most of the reviews I've read on here previously though compare it to a hybrid MARK/Rectifier amp. The cleans aren't quite as neat as the Mark meaning their a bit more hairy and the sound isn't quite as thudish as the Recto or modern as the Mark. Don't let that turn you away though because the OD is pretty thick and heavy sounding and the cleans are great IMO.

Most people who own this amp love it and it's pretty well known for being a jack of all trades. Hope this helps, but I'm sure others with more info will happily respond as well...

.50 Caliber +

High Gain
Lead channel is more Mark like
Very one dimensional, tricky to get both a nice clean & lead at the same time. It is possible but there is sacrifice in tone.
Tight crunch perfect for all thrash

DC-5

High Gain but not as much as the .50 Caliber +, but still enough gain that it doesn't lack any
More versatile in terms of getting a good clean and lead at the same time
Lead channel is more Recto like
Lead isn't quit as tight, more recto like here too
More suited to newer metal but can still zone in on 80's thrash

If you search you'll find this is the general feedback you'll read...The above is my take on the two amps. I own 2 .50 Caliber +'s and love em.

I'd just be sure to make sure either amp you go with is in good working order and is factory original/un-modded and really either would sound good.

Speaker, cab & pickups are also factors to keep in mind and factor in.

Thanks alot. I've decided on the DC-5. Some guy is selling a beautiful burgundy tolexed one here on the classifieds. I think i'm gonna snatch it tonight :)

if it lacks gain (dont think it will :p ) I'll be boosting it anyway with an SD-1 just for tightness.
