Hi everyone, I just got a DC-5. It's my first good tube amp and I love it, but I'm having an issue with the effects loop. When the level for the effects loop is turned up it seems to cause the preamp to be driven a little more? I get a strange crackle, not very dramatic, but noticeable. This occurs even when there's nothing plugged into the loop. Any ideas as to what may be causing this? It was modded by voodoo amps but I don't have much info as to what specifically was done. To the best of my knowledge there was no mods to the effects loop. Thanks everyone.

Could be a lot of things but I'd try a new 12AX7 in the V3(FX return tube). Easy try. Bob

So... I finally got around to changing the v3 tube. It seemed to work for a little bit but then the problem returned. It's actually getting a little worse. It seems to start happening when the amp gets hot... a crackle in the high end appears then, if you turn the mix knob, it starts acting like a parametric eq set at a really high frequency. It causes the sound to become very thin and blatty. It almost totally disappears when the mix knob is off and gets steadily worse as you turn up the fx mix. This happens with or without anything plugged into the fx loop. I also replaced v5 while I was at it. Any guesses?

Just wanted to post this in case it helps anyone else. It was the mix pot on the loop... did the serial mod, removed the pot, and it fixed my problem.

Great to hear! :)

For those that use the loop the Series Mod for the Effects Loop is a marked improvement and I would consider it a must. If you have any questions you are welcome to call or email me directly ([email protected]).

All the best and I hope you have a great weekend!
