Hi

I have just become the proud owner of a DC10 combo but it came without its footswitch - i'm struggling here in the UK to find a replacement - does anyone on here have any ideas that may point me in the right direction

Importing from the US is mighty costly with import duties etc so thats kind of out

But any suggestions will be gratefully accepted!!! :D

If you can acquire the parts I can tell you how to make it. You'll need:
  • metal project box
  • LED
  • 3.3k resistor
  • pushbutton switch

and of course a soldering iron and some wire...

Which version of the amp is it? There are two types of footswitch depending on which it is. Version 1 has a single-button footswitch as kiff describes, with the EQ assigned automatically (or not, as you set it) to the lead channel; version 2 has a 2-button switch for both the channel and EQ which can be set to be separately switchable. If the amp has plastic rocker power/standby switches and/or LEDs next to the input and footswitch jack, it's version 1; if it has metal toggles and no LEDs next to the jack, it's version 2. The version 2 footswitch has just two switches and two LEDs inside, no resistors.

Any standard 2-button latching footswitch will work version 2; you just don't get the LEDs. You can add them by connecting them in series with the switches, with the cathodes to ground.

Wow!! Thanks guys for the detailed answers. It's a version 2 that I have so I just need to find a two switch latching footswitch and i'm away. Mesa UK quoted me £110 for a dc 10 pedal so I think I'll go down the cheapy route and get a stagecraft one!!

£110 for that footswitch is insane. It's just two switches, two LEDs and a cable in a metal box. I could hand build you one for half that, and still pay myself a very decent rate :).

Check Marshall footswitches too - there's at least one (for the DSL401 combo I think) that has two buttons and LEDs, although I'm not certain if the system is identical so they may not work. But if not, it would be easy to modify it so they did. Marshall footswitches aren't too expensive, I think probably about £30 for that one.

PM me about it I can take mine apart and give you a picture and show you exactly what the guts are, it's very very simple. Or I could make you one shipping from US to UK shouldn't be that bad probably cost around 10 pounds to make one yourself though or less
