damm . A mate came over last night and he wanted to hear new new DR . I had a few beers in me and my gear was still packed up from the studio and I forgot the speaker lead

It was only on for 15 seconds or so before I realised why it wasnt making sound. Is this long enough to do any damage to the tubes ?

Have you tried it? There shouldn't be any problem with that short of a time. They are tough! :D

yeah . I turned it off and plugged in the cable and it seemed fine after

Dude I had a buddy unplug the speaker cable from my recto without me knowing and I didnt realize it was unplugged for a solid 2 minutes and everything was fine. I wouldn't worry at all!

jesus . you must been happy when you found out he unplugged it !

i cant see any trouble at all. usually this would cause your transformer to fail and not so much your tubes. what happens is if there is no wire for the signal to go thru the signal ends up going back to your amp and thus frying your transformer. but no need to worry you would have to play it alot longer and at loud volume to really harm anything.

If it's working fine now it's almost certainly OK, but there is definitely potential for trouble.

Unlike most amps, the Dual Rectifier is actually unstable with no load, even with no signal input, and will self-oscillate at full power - I think it may be only in the Modern mode (when the negative feedback loop is disconnected) but I'm not certain. If this happens, you'll probably hear a faint high-pitched squealing noise coming from the transformer, and 'heating' noises from the tubes, or see them visibly glowing too brightly. If you're unlucky or it carries on for a long time, you could possibly blow the tubes or the transformer, since it's like cranking the amp at full volume with no speaker.

It's not a 'fault', it's just a characteristic of the amp when it's operated in a way it was never designed to be... but be careful!

So what is your take on the new rectifier? Did you have one of the older 3 channels to compare?
