Hi, I'm interested in getting a high end guitar with a Mockingbird body style.

My problem with BC Rich is that they have lots of really cheap stuff (bronze/platinum/etc)... then medium grade (NJ/exotic classic/etc, $700-800 price level) and then suddenly... jump up to custom handmade pricing around $4000.

I mean... sure they look nice as hell:

But on the other hand, for that price level (or even a bit less), I could get a custom guitar with a better fit neck profile, choice in wood, hardware, electronics, more personalized styling, etc.

So the question is... does anyone know any custom shops or boutique guitar makers that can do a Mockingbird style guitar?

Thanks 8)

I would say Ran Guitars and Shamray could make one for you to B.C. Rich custom shop specs at a price significantly lower than the B.C. Rich custom shop.

Neal Moser use to work for B.C. Rich back in the day. He makes great guitars.

here you go:

warmoth or moser, cant go wrong, just depends on what other features you really want.

moser is nice, but warmoth can do alot more personalization for a lower cost if i remember correctly.

So buy a thru-neck from carvin, a body from warmoth - and have someone local combine 'em for ya.

Why not just search out a vintage mockingbird? you can get a nice player for around $900-1300. add on about another $400-500 for a shorthorn.

I really, really, really wish I could. Vintage mocks are nice 8) But there are several reasons...

1) Haven't seen one go under $2000
2) I'm really particular about the neck profile... I'd want a better fit than BC Rich's for that kind of money.
3) I really DON'T want all those coil taps, phase switches, and varitone selectors. I'm sure they're bloody useful, but to me they're unsightly. The only controls I want is two volume knobs and one tone knob.
4) For that kind of money, I start getting picky about finishes. I want a quilted maple top, no less than AAAA, in either tobacco sunburst, cherry sunburst, or something classic looking like that.

And besides... it's just nice to have a custom guitar :D

Thats why I am going to purchase a Moser 6 this year. Personal custom guitar. But I am not into the whole woodgrain finishes on my guitars though. They are nice and beautiful, just not me.

you know, the idea of buying the neck thru carvin neck, and cutting a warmoth mockingbird body, and having a luthier put them together, is probalby the best choice i've heard yet....

the carvin product is top shelf...
you could carve or sand the neck shape to your content....

the actual build (gluing the wings to the center neck piece) would be no different than if Rich actually built it custom ordered....

it would be no more expensive (depending on the worth/expense of your luthier) to custom build than to custom order.

it would look badass.

get an unshaped headstock for no extra cost......
shape it like a Rich...

gonzo, on paper that's cool suggestion (Warmoth, Carvin neck) but if you asks Warmoth to built BC Rich Body w/o the neck pocket they'll reply back they can't do that.

Then you start bitching (no pun intended, remember "BC Rich '*****'" model) on a forum like this one, (I think) some member will eventually e-mail Brian Warmoth[? if I'm not mistaken] and then he'll say: "Yes we could do that request. I will inform that employee that an inquire like 'this' could be done."

Its like it takes complaints and bitching if you want something custom mods / work from Warmoth.

By the way, the Carvin neck profile is similar to Warmoth thin contour, very fast sleek, 15" radius also note that Carvin does have different material block inlays in the custom page.

Not sure if this is your preference or not.
