I've got an old early '80s model USA made Peavey Predator (strat copy). It was red w/ wht pickguard until I customized it. Here's all the parts I put on it:

-Peavey Floyd Rose licensed bridge
-Locking nut
-Schaller non-locking tuners
-Dimarzio pickups:
-Evo Bridge
-Blue Velvet SC
-PAF Pro (Neck)
-Custom cut/painted pickguard and backplate (blue pearl coat)
-Custom paintjob - natural front and back, black sides, 4 coats blue pearl all around
-input jack (black)
-abalone shell knobs

Everything is new except for the neck (and frets), body, and switch (and wiring)

I refinished the neck using the gunstock oil and wax method (ala Ernie Ball necks). Turned out very nice!

I'm just wondering if it is worth anything since I customized it!

I doubt that you'll get very much for a Peavey, let alone one that's been so heavily modded.

I'm not no "blue book" guitar specialists but put it on E-Bay and see what takers makes a bid for how much.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but personally I would think the guitar at the most is what you invest into it. "Invest", I mean pickups, custom hardware, all the replacement how much it cost you for those hardware etc ...

Unless some E-Bay buyer is really banana after your guitar ... its not simple, you modify a guitar and think its going to sell for $$$. I see all the time, friends tried to sell their guitar thinking just because it has "so-so" pickups it should be worth more than a brand new model. Not the case.

Hope others chime so we get a good sample of opinions.

MY GUESS IS....

you'd get more for it, by selling the pieces off of it one by one.

there's always a possibility that SOMEONE is looking for this exact guitar, with these modifications..

but the chances are slim, you might get $50-100 over the going rate on a standard model on ebay...

probably do better selling it locally.

Thanks for the responses. My feelings are synonymous with all of yours. I don't think I will actually sell it, but I thought I would see how much it *might* be worth in case someone is inquisitive about it... Thanks for the input! I agree that I would get more for it by parting it out. It was fun to customize it, so I'll prob just hang on to it for a continuous project guitar. I might even slap some kind of synth pickup on it to play around with or a piezo. Haha. Thanks again guys...

^^ Good advice here ^^

This is true with most things.

It is a used 80's Peavey, your investments into the guitar are all but lost.

Upgrading a guitar like that isnt worth it when you consider resale.

Yeah, that's what I figured. It was more for my enjoyment and satisfaction. I couldn't sell my first guitar so I thought I'd 'pimp it out'. LOL. I thought I'd see if there would be any value to it whatsoever above what they go for stock... Which is about $100... If that.

Thanks for the input guys!

I tried to sell the same model Predator that you have (US Made with the block letter logo) and I couldn't even sell it for $100 BIN on Ebay. The guitar had mighty mite pickups, schaller locking tuners, and a WD pickgaurd. I wound up giving it to my dad's friend to learn guitar on. Anything Peavey doesn't hold it's value unless it's endorsed (think EVH) but even that can be a crapshoot sometimes.

It seems like you did nice work though.

It's a solid guitar, and it was fun to see it all come together in the end, but you are exactly right. Peavey does not hold it's value. I could hardly give away my XXX I just traded in for an Ibanez. I finally said, what the hell, I'll just get a guitar for drop tunings and return the Peavey to it's "roots" and slap some 9's on it and leave it by the computer for pick up and jam ease...

i sold my peavey predator with dimazio super distortion and super 2 for 120 bucks at a rummage to a peavey collector. Actually my wife sold it, i would have told him it about as much peavey as a home made guitar. Diamond plate pickguard and custom did it myself red metalic flack pickguard. Looked better than it sounded :D
