ive been using a recto for a while now. ive been trying to sell my ED because im no longer gigging and the bedroom volumes aren't the greatest. well, i had a chance to get loud and raunchy. decided to pop in some el34s and crank it. OMG. why did i ever consider selling this amp. it is so thick, and punchy and tight. ive had it for a year now, and i am back in love with my dyne. it just has this satisfying tone to it. that the recto doesnt have. it is very musical. and is so fun to play. anyone want a cheap dual recto...? :D

Man, why not sell the recto and use the $$$s to get the 'Dyne modified for bedroom use as well as stage use? I envy you, I'd rather the dyne than a Recto but I simply cannot part with my 2 channel Dual and I have no money to afford the difference in such a swap.

ya. i would love a modded dyne. but ill wait till the warranty is done. the dual is still a sick amp. the orange channel on vintage mode is my favorite sound. the dyne is just so much sweeter sounding and less grainy/fizzy. i love how the dyne under high gain, thumps you in the chest, where the recto loosens your bowels and flaps your pant legs. i would love to keep both, but i just like only having one amp.
so in 4 yrs if mesa hasn't come out with a lower watt version of the dyne ill be throwin in a half power mod.

oh and i just figured out the perfect acdc crunch sound on the dyne after a year of ownership...

el34s
45 watt mode
gain trim off
clean mode engaged
gain knob full
tone knobs to taste
hot pickups on a les paul (duncan jb)
master volume 9 oclock

holy hell....

With a good OD pedal, the low volume tones on the Electradyne are at least as good as any 2 channel Rectifier. I once owned a 2 channel triple rec, so I'm not talking out of my ***, FWIW. This only applies if you want to hear the true tone of your guitar in the high gain modes. The "fizzy" distortion is one thing that I could not dial out of my triple rec. It's all about the voicing, I guess. 8)

Yes, recto distortion has much more bite in the highs and it gets really fizzy at low volumes. Oh well, the difference between boogies is hair splitting when the only viable financial option for a new amp right now would be a used Peavey Rage 158. The only I could acquire a Dyne would be to negotiate a straight up trade for the gear I have right now. Boo urns to being a student, it WON'T happen. On the plus side, I already own high end tube gear so no complaints here!
