O.K. Guys,
I'm splitting up my combo. Tonight I ordered a 27" Headshell and a 2x12 Speaker cabinet (unloaded). It will take two trips, but I will not have to worry about suffering a hernia when it comes time to load out my Lone Star. I'm looking forward to it!
Cost : $871 Time: about 4 weeks (or so..)
It will actually make for a nice looking stack, I already have a 2x12 Lone Star extension cab. Should be pretty cool. :)
When I was a kid I could sling around Kustom 2x15 and 3x15 speaker cabs with energy left over for the girlfriend in the back seat of my car.... These days...my best friend is the little orange pill (Motrin) I take after a really rough day at work, or whenever I have to load in/out my guitar rig. It helps with my aching fingers too.

It's a good move. I'm so much happier with my head and cab than than I was struggling with the combo. I did keep things light in the cab department as well by only getting a 1x12. The head is still quite heavy but nothing compared to the combo. If I have to move them over a long distance I use a pair of folding trucks http://www.bizchair.com/220646-wes.html but I make sure I keep one hand on the head's handle. How much just for the headshell?

The headshell was $349, same price for the 23" BTW. I had considered both the smaller head and the 1x12 cab as well. But lifting the 2x12 that I have isn't so bad and the "sonic footprint" that the 2 speakers have is important to me. I think it sounds better.

We can re-titled this thread to 'No country for old men' :D
For years I used to lug around a Marshall 4x12 and sometimes another 2x12 for stereo setup, so I was 'downsizing' when I go the 2x12 combo route, but the pig is actually heavier than any single piece I had. I got to have help when dealing with stairs. Convert to a head and cab is on my to do list but I'm not sure which to go with, 27 or 23, or I might just sell the pig and get the Mark V (tempting)

The only solution is the wheel. Hand truck or any type of cart contraption. The hard part is in and out of the car. If it is in a flight case you can roll it up the stairs. The amp is worth the hassel. She is a heavey girl though.
