I've posted occasionally in the last few weeks about my GAS and desire to look into selling off two amps (LSS and Maz 38 Sr.) for maybe a Bruno Underground 30, Matchless xC-30, or something else. Some follow-up:
-LSC
In preparation I've been playing my LSC exclusively at rehearsals and gigs (original funk/rock and jazz). I love this amp and can't see selling it for anything. It was heartening to see that despite some initial ideas about amps for his tour (see Guitar Player interview), DiMeola ended up with a Fuchs and an LSC for his tour. See my other thread about this. I now have a Zendrive which allows me to set Ch 1 for clean, Ch 2 for dirt, and use Zendrive for overdrive.
-Bruno
I had a chance to try a 2-3 year old UG30. This amp for me had a great tone for certain application; and that's it: one great tone. I only tried it for 30 minutes or so but was able to crank it as loud as I wanted (through Bruno 2x12 cab with blues). LOUD, NO clean headroom, and really one sound that I could find. No way am I dropping that much cake on an amp like this. Especially if it means giving up the versatility and great tone of LSS
-Dr Z Max 38 Sr
I gave this amp a last hurrah to make sure I wasn't missing something. It is a GREAT amp with a bit more versatility than the Bruno. However, it is too bright and loud for me and I would never dump my LSC for it (my other 2x12 amp). So this will be sold <sniff>. Great tone machine but not vital to my collection.
-Fuchs/Two-Rock
So now I'm thinking about these. Very hard to consider: LOT's of money and hard to try out. ODS 50 or Two-Rock Classic Type-n seem like the obvious choices.
-Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue
So, I'm thinking, hmmm, with some of the money from the Dr Z sale, pick up one of these for certain small dates and variety. Everytime I've heard them in clubs (might have sometimes been old ones) they sounded great. Any thoughts appreciated
And in conclusion: Have done a bunch of Zoom recordings of live gigs with the LSC. What am I complaining about? The tone I'm getting is great, the amp was reasonably priced, and I love the Boogie look, customer service, and dependibility. I may have relieved my GAS...but then there's that Fuchs vs. Two-Rock thing...
To be continued...
