I don't own this one but it seems like a great choice considering the budget you gave:

Do you want thick (cheesy) chorus or subtle and transparent? If you want thick try anything by TC. For subtle the Boss CE-5 is perfect.

I got a tc corona chorus and I like it.
Not really picky about chorus sounds tho, just wanted to add some cheesy-ness to a couple of 80s pop covers we do.
Found the tc on gumtree 5mins distance from work for £60 which is the going rate in the UK for used.
should be around $90-$100

I use a boss CH-1. I had some issues setting the amp for pure clean but it was all me learning the amp. I bought my Mark V and then was thinking I could just set it and use it on my next job. Well, I did but I could hear clipping going on with the clean channel. Talked to the guys at the Hollywood store and I got a little schooling on how to setup the amp. Bring the master volume up about half then adjust each channel to that. No more clip.

I run a Mark V with two 2x12 Mesa cabs. Effects loop runs to a couple of MXR Carbon Copy pedals and then a Boss CH-1 Stereo Chorus. I send one side of the chorus back to the Mark V and to one of the 2x12 cabs. Then the other side of the chorus to a 150 watt Yamaha power amp and to the other 2x12 cab. I run the cabs split on stage.

Yes the sound is huge on the dance floor. I have heard many people say a stereo setup is useless because people can only hear one side. And freakin Tinkerbell keeps all my guitars tuned too. SO if you are on the right side of the stage the people to your left cannot hear you? Gota love Tink.

FYI. I am in the process of getting an MXR M134 Stereo chorus. I had one in the early 80s and they are very nice.

What would you say it is the difference between the Boss CH-1 and the CE-5 chorus?
I though the CH-1 is the more subtle of the two but maybe I am totally wrong.

Thank you in advance.

I cannot answer your question as I don't have a CE-5. I do know that the CH-1 has what is called E. Level. In mono mode it acts like a signal mix and in stereo mode it acts like a "sudo" balance pot between the two amps. Raising and lowering the amp that is NOT connected to the output marked (Mono).

If the CH-1 is more subtle than the CE-5 then the CE-5 must really be able to wash things out.

Again like I said I am in the process of getting an MXR M134 Stereo chorus. It has an "intensity" pot, Low EQ cut. and can usually be had used on ebay for about $100

I would also recommend checking out the MXR M-234 Analog Chorus Pedal I have heard nothing but praise on that one. Also in the $100 range.

Another consideration is both the M-134 and the M-234 are analog pedals. I like the analog sound. I play Telecasters and I already get lots of top end and digital seems to be very crisp and bright if not sharp. I went through the Digital thing many years ago.
