Anyone have any experience with these speakers? I'm interested in them because I hear that the ACE does not sound good with v30's because of the harsh mids of the v30's. The ace already has plenty of mids and brightness so it doesnt make sense to get v30's. I currently have greenbacks, I like the warmness they have but the early cone breakup bothers me.

I want something that tames the uber brightness of the ACE. People say that if its too bright just get a new amp BUT I love the tone of my ACE and it has a lot of great qualities, there is just that one setback.

If you have experience with cl80's let me know if you like them and why/why not. Other input is appreciated too!

i've tried the warehouse vesion and the mesa mc90. they are absoutley my favorite speakers with the stiletto. adds some chunk to the sound and curbs the top end with out being muddy.

I have an Egnater Tourmaster 2x12, it has C80 Celestions. Details on Guitar Center site. Classis 80's. They are less bright and more punchy by far than the Celestions G12 75w in my Marshall 2x12 combo. Better thump and not as much ice pick highs without sounding muffled. If the cab can't cover a Sad But True type jam I would not consider it just to know what I think is decent.

How do they compare to vintage 30's?

I spent about an hour doing A/B comparison w/Egnater Tourmaster C80s and Mesa 2x12 horiz V30's. The rectifier 2x12 cab is too small IMO. 15H x 26 3/4W x 12 3/4D. Tourmaster is 29.75W x 12D x 23H, significantly more volume, combine that will a slightly different speaker voicing and to my ears.... better thump/chug.

Seems like the bigger box gives more room for the speakers to move. The same reason I like the larger Rectifier 4x12 cab. 30-1/8" W x 32-7/8" H x 14-1/4" D over the smaller Stilleto 4 x 12. Why the boys at MESA did not apply the same ideas on sizing the 2x12? Maybe they were selling size/portability or as an add on box instead of primary speaker enclosure?

Then I am still looking for a RoadKing open tuned back left side and sealed back right side cab to test. Inserting Mesa Propaganda here  Road King Cabinets provide a new level of performance and convenience through the use of a new and innovative “Dual Cabinet” design. This new design features both a tuned open-back side (left) and a sealed closed-back side (right), each of which may be used independently or combined, all within the same cabinet!

Speakers are a very subjective opinion. I am a choosy mother, and choosy mothers choose Jif.

Will classic lead 80's bright enough? Because I hear that they resemble the g12t-75's which have scooped mids. I want something thats bright but v30's combined with the ACE is too bright. TRUTH?

Keep in mind, my style ranges around these bands; blink 182/u2/angels and airwaves. Which means, a vintage sound kind of mixed in with punk rock.

First off let me just say that I guess there is always going to be some compromises made when choosing what kind of speakers to use with your amp. I disagree about v30's not complimenting this amp it just depends on application.. V30's sound just fine with this head. The MIds IMO aren't so much as harsh but "clear/transparent" this amp (Ace HEad anyway) wasn't designed to played in a little bedroom with "loud efficient speakers like vintage 30's" (especially the tite gain and fluid drive modes of the dirty channel) but instead in an evironment where you can get your master and output to at least around noon without going deaf :) . I feel the gain should be used wisely especially at loud volumes for you don't need to have your gain much past 1-2 oclock or so to get a good transparent distortion. (at least in the tite gain diode mode) at high volumes.

------For in your bedroom it will almost seem as though that if you have your gain up high and your master down low in the dirty channel, that little dagger you see on the amp will almost certainly want to jump off the front of the chasis and Jab ya right in the Ear  ----------

isn't this the truth as is TONE! 8)

I think in a band situation, you cant go wrong with the V30s. Ive never played thru the CL80s but I had a cab with C90s and I can say that they are much darker than the T75's. The C90 or CL80 would be great with a stiletto. My personal fav is the V30 X H30 combination.

The specs you listed are for the Stiletto cab I'm thinking.
I've been losing sleep over the Recto 2x12 or 4x12 thing for quite some time now which is the only reason I mention/noticed it.

As for the Celestion CL-80 speakers, I don't have a clue unfortunatly.
