i have recently purchased a second hand caliber 50+, the reverb has recently died and prior to that there were horrible noises before the tubes were warm and also if i tapped the chassis while the reverb was on. could someone please help, i live in phuket in thailand not a lot of tube amp engineers, cheers

i'm not sure of the tube layout, try replacing the 2nd to last 12ax7 ( away from the input jack, looking in the back of the amp.) Also, if the 50CAL+ is at all like the DC series(at least mine) the reverb is not exactly overpowering to say the least. I hear it more on the rythm channel, on the lead channel (with a band) it's more like a tone control. Turning it up is like turning down the presence.

another thing to look at is the reverb unit itself which is a poor design, it's held in place bu tiny metal springs that can come loose and cause the reverb unit to short out, which is what mine did. I had mine disconnected...

Thank you for your responses. I have ordered a 12at7 to replace the reverb tube which i hope is the reason. Is it possible to fit a 12ax7 briefly just to test the reverb? Cheers!

yep, you can use a 12ax7, another trick for the .50 cal, if you don't use the reverb and want more gain is to pull the tube out all together.

Will that work on a DC-5?

Thanks again! I pulled one of the 12ax7,s out of my satellite 60 and works great. i have ordered two Thai teak wood cabinets for both of my babies and wicker grilles off a local furniture maker for US 100 each, if they turn out as beautifull as his furniture i will be very happy. Cheers.

Not sure, but the tech that told me was personal friends with Mike B. and has a .50 cal so I listened to him...
